BrokeBack Mountain - Discuss

Lube is for rookies.

I've debated watching this for years. Gyllenhaal and Ledgder were my two favorite actors of the time and it seems to get a lot of love by people who aren't necessarily in to that sort of thing. It was gay just before it became accepted and embraced, the movie probably helped move that along. Seems to me that there's probably some real merit to the movie and it's not just mindless softcore porn. My girlfriend saw it though and says it's garbage, the relationship is based on nothing but sex which wouldn't say anything of value if true. But she tends to miss almost all subtext when watching movies so there may be a lot that she missed.
What she says is true on the surface, but thematically sex is symbolic for acceptance. They do other things besides fuck and kiss, but those images tend to discomfit and therefore stick with certain viewers. Acceptance/nonacceptance is also illustrated in the het-sex as well, plus there's titties and shit. It's not exactly required viewing -- it's just a really good movie.

it was better than I expected it to be and the scenery was also beautiful sans the cowboys smashing others cheeks.

This. Spit doesn't make for great lube, and anal sex without enema's first is definitely going to end in tears. I suppose they were young and inexperienced though. We've all been there.
wait, tears or tears?

probably both

The movie has nothing interesting to offer
It’s a gay love story
Why would anyone who doesn’t want to see two shepherds cornhole each other without any of the porn aspect even consider watching it

Maybe. I watched it this year because I was looking up oscar snubs and this was near the top for all time biggest snubs and it was the only film i didnt see.

I never get tired of Anne Hathaway's perfect natural naked boobs. That's pretty much the only part of that movie I saw.

I rewatched this over the weekend.

Allow me to say - I'm not homophobic, but there is not a gay bone in my body. I'm am firmly 100% hertrosexual.
I don't besmirch gay men either though.
As a matter of fact - I'm not particularly enthusiastic about that prototypical "in your face", butch alpha male shit either - that has historically been considered what being a "real man", is.

The historical "real man", they don't fair so well in customer service positions.
Women - do far better here.

By the same token - women don't really do great in heavy labour job roles.

Point I'm making is - I don't think we're at the evolutionary point yet, where we really understand what is a truly balanced and progressive personal disposition (personality).

But - as to the film BrokeBack Mountain - I mean it unquestionably gives rise to a certain sympathy, as the characters pain is exhibited often, in terms of their not being able to have their needs met by one another sufficiently - due to the possible societal backlash during that particular era.

One outstanding point of consequence that the film makers obviously use to their advantage here is - both protagonists - they're trophy men, effectively.
Regardless of orientation - women throw themselves at them.

If they were some regular average looking dipshits - the audience wouldn't be nearly as sympathetic to their cause.

But the film obviously broaches the poor tolerance of society to homosexuality.

I think in terms of the topics of men, women, disposition, orientation - the good, the bad, the ugly - there's a multitude of, as yet undefined themes that this film touches on; to me, that's what makes it somewhat unique and, despite potentially catching feedback for this opinion - an enjoyable and thought provoking piece of filmography to watch.

Pretty good movie but I thought it was weak how they had the villain doing heavy breathing after the credits to leave the door open for a sequel.
