GAME OF THRONES Prequel Starring Naomi Watts Cancelled at HBO

This. Maybe I'm just a plebe or not a big enough book snob, but the "precipitous" fall in quality from the previous seasons that people keep lamenting hasn't really been that apparent.

IIRC there were some pretty meh seasons in the middle as well, but nobody cared about those because it was setup, while this is payoff. Well, it's never going to live up to the imaginary payoff you were hoping GRRM would write, cause guess what, he ain't writing shit.

Yeah honestly some people complained bout the dude running in a straight line. Didn't bother me. When your going to die you dont act logical. The main thing that did bother me is when the whitewalkers and crew had them surrounded on the ice. Yall dont got spears or bows? Cuz if you do its over right there. They coulda just made the dragons come quicker though and it wouldn't have bothered me.

Naomi Watts to Star in GAME OF THRONES Prequel from HBO

HBO has found the cornerstone of its Game of Thrones prequel. Two-time Oscar nominee Naomi Watts has been tapped to star in the as-yet untitled project from creator Jane Goldman and George R.R. Martin.

The drama, picked up to pilot in June, is set thousands of years before the events of the HBO flagship. The story chronicles the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. A logline from the network teased the plot without divulging any specifics: "Only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros' history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend — it's not the story we think we know."

Watts will play a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret. The character's name is not being revealed.

The pilot is based on a story from Goldman and Martin, with the teleplay credited to Goldman. Goldman will also serve as showrunner. In addition to Goldman and Martin, executive producers on the series include current Game of Thrones producer Vince Gerardis, as well as Damages and Bloodline co-creator Daniel Zelman and Jim Danger Gray. Chris Symes will serve as a co-EP.

Goldman and Martin's Game of Thrones prequel is the first of several potential series set in the world of Westeros to move forward at HBO beyond the script phase. In May 2017, a multitude of writers were revealed by the pay cabler to be working on what Martin himself has described as "successor shows." Those writers include Goldman, Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island), Brian Helgeland (Legend), Carly Wray (Westworld) and Game of Thrones veteran Bryan Cogman. Game of Thrones creators and showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss are not involved in the successor show effort, focusing instead on the forthcoming final season of Game of Thrones after more than a decade spent wandering the world of the Seven Kingdoms.

Speaking previously with The Hollywood Reporter, HBO programming president Casey Bloys said that any Game of Thrones successors, if greenlighted, would not air "until at least a year after the final season." The exec also added that he did not expect every one of the scripts to move forward beyond the page.

For her part, Watts has earned two lead actress Oscar nominations (for 21 Grams and The Impossible) and also counts starring roles in such films as Mulholland Drive, King Kong and Birdman. On the TV side, her credits include Showtime's Twin Peaks revival and Netflix's Gypsy, the latter of which she also executive produced. The actress most recently starred in Ophelia and will next appear in Once Upon a Time in Staten Island, The Wolf Hour, Boss Level and Luce.

It's mostly the dialogue that suffered badly. The action is great though and it's still the best thing on TV.

Hmm not the history we think we know...

But still likely to be a targ.

Calling it now, she's gonna be Brandon Starks daughter that Bael the Bard knocks up

It's mostly the dialogue that suffered badly. The action is great though and it's still the best thing on TV.

Think that is the point......it was a character driven show with a bit of action thrown in. Last couple of seasons it has become more and more action dependent. It's still good, as you say, but it's clearly gone downhill. It's almost like it switched genres/style.

Should just let it die at it's natural conclusion.

Whole thing has "Star Wars" feel about it. We think we want more until we get it.

Im prepared to jerk it to watts

I mean watch watts

Watts is solid even if she's entering (entered?) MILF territory.

I guess starring in something GoT related isn't really taking a career risk these days; nonetheless her casting is an encouraging sign.

Meh.. give the people what they want. Give us ‘Roberts Rebellion’.

I feel like they’re doing this one because of all the spoiler bullcrap. Weak.

Naomi has some of the best nips in the game. And she's a great actress. Hopefully she shows off all her talent in this project.

Poldark Actor Josh Whitehouse Lands a Lead Role in GAME OF THRONES Prequel

dBJwAsq.jpg

HBO has set Josh Whitehouse to a lead role in HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel pilot from writer Jane Goldman and author/GOT co-executive producer George R.R. Martin that has Naomi Watts heading a fast-forming ensemble cast.

Whitehouse is a British actor who starred in Northern Soul and most recently wrapped the lead role in The Happy Worker, the David Lynch-exec produced drama directed by Lynch protege Duwayne Dunham. Whitehouse next stars in MGM’s musical retelling of the cult classic Valley Girl, playing the lead role originated by Nicolas Cage. He currently can be seen in the BBC series Poldark, and on billboards as the face of Burberry’s new fragrance campaign, ‘Mr. Burberry.’

The story line and roles are being kept close to the vest at HBO, which would not comment.

The untitled prequel takes place thousands of years before the events of Game Of Thrones. It chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.

Watts was announced yesterday to play a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.

Goldman serves as showrunner and will executive produce alongside Martin as well as fellow GOT co-executive producer Vince Gerardis and Damages and Bloodline co-creator Daniel Zelman. Added since the June pilot green light are former BBC Studios executive James Farrell and Jim Danger Gray as executive producers and Chris Symes as co-executive producer. As previously announced, GOT creators/exec producers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss have no involvement in the potential offshoots.
