How was Anderson Silva considered GOAT when he had no legit ground game?

Ground game isn't the question mark with Silva. Roids and level of opposition he faced in the UFC are the real questions about him.

Poor troll attempt. Andy has most rounded game. Unlike you bf george he has a jab...and...actually thats it.

Wtf is wrong with sherdog nowadays

Solid threads get wastelanded or closed right away yet an obvious troll is allowed to make a thread, never even respond to his obvious stupid statement, and now its 7 pages long.

He had some submissions. It wasn’t his strong point but he some decent jiu jitsu and upkicks/strikes from the bottom

Level of opposition? He faced some of the best there was at MW....Franklin 2x, Sonnen 2x, Hendo, Vitor, Marquart, Maia and Okami. That's a very high level of opposition, furthermore, he beat every single one of those guys in their best form and prime. And he fought Forrest at LHW 8 months after he was LHW champ.

You can't question the opposition.

He was a top-notch striker, no doubt. But he always had known weakness. You knew he was in trouble when a good wrestler takes him down. I always believed GSP had legit arguments as GOAT more than Silva. Even Jon Jones has better arguments with how well-rounded his game is, whether stand up striking or wrestling/BJJ.

Yeah I can't remember any significant submission wins by Anderson.

He does have a ground game. It revolves around avoiding damage and preventing the opponent from advancing position while being aware of opportunistic sweeps/subs. Very effective in its own way.

His weakness in respect to grappling is that he's a pretty poor wrestler.

even there, he got better at it.

HENDO fought Anderson in 2008.

Don't argue with stupid, he probably believes the Hendo that rematched and almost ko'd Bisping was in his prime and would've destroyed Silva.

A poor attempt at trolling which in a way kinda worked since it reached 7 pages...

Not prime Henderson, that's for sure.
Uhhh....better than prime Hendo, TRT Hendo. The Hendo that went on from this lost to beat Palhares, Rich Franklin, Bisping, Babalu, Cavalcante, Fedor, and Shogun...

He has a legit ground game, just not an imposing one. He's more of a defensive grappler, but he's a vet and tricky, so if a fighter gets lazy in his guard, he can submit them. Now, a strong, top heavy grappler who is competent in folk's guards with good GNP will always be his kryptonite. Silva fought good grapplers, but he never fought too many grapplers as good as Chris. And we saw the results. He got knocked out, but the fear of the mat led to that. Romero or Jones would have violated Silva on the mat.

Yeah, Wanderlei was done when he decided to start fighting heavy hitters in Hunt and Mirko. Everything that was left in his ability to take shots left with that Crocop headkick.

Dan Henderson is an all-time great, no question and IMO has the best resume in MMA but lets not act like he was on some big win streak heading into the Silva fight. He lost his fight right before fighting Silva.

You forgot to mention that his biggest wins also came at a higher weight class; so silva faced the smaller, weaker, less effective version of henderson, who was transforming into a one-trick pony/brawler.

Conor is the GOAT and he has only had to display his prowess on the ground against Max Holloway so you don’t need to use ground a lot to be in the GOAT discussion. In fact Conor may be just as good on the ground, or better, as he is standing up.

I know a lot of you are new to martial arts and may not know who Dillion Danis is but he is one of the top Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitors in the world. He has trained with Conor so he knows what is what and he confirmed that Conor would beat Khabib, who has shown the best octagon grappling, in a grappling match. He is good enough to beat Khabib in grappling but so good he doesn’t have to grapple in the cage. Think about that next time you think people need to show their grappling to be great.

anderson silva submitted travis lutter, the white michael jackson of BJJ

Not prime Henderson, that's for sure.

Wtf you talking about? 3 fights before epic ud loss to Rampage for lhw title, ko of Wandy at Pride 33, ud over Belfort. 3 fights after wins over Palhares, Franklin and Bisping KO. Literally right in the middle of Hendo prime.
