International If a War USA Vs The rest of the World happened, who would win it?

The US is spread pretty thin as is, and a couple decades of fighting vastly inferior opponents have left them with a collision-happy navy, at least.
Take into account the US military's reliance on satellites and communication networks, and their potential adversaries' ability to disrupt these, and it doesn't look great for the states.
Being set up for, and only having experience in counter-insurgency operations against, lets be honest, the absolute dregs of the military world, also doesn't bode well when going up against technologically comprable enemies.

Americans are also used to comfort and not particularly united. A month or two without the distraction of the internet and satellite television, and the civillian population will be forcing the gov to sue for peace - either through mass anti-war demonstrations or because they'll be forced to pay attention to one another and will be killing each other in the streets.

Military expenditure + number of soldiers doesn't necessarily win you a war. There are countless examples where superior armies were defeated by underdog foes, for various reasons.

America is a great military power but sorry, it's not going to whip the entire world.

Even moving past actual physical battle, think about the economic impacts. US is in a war on the entire world, all of it's imports and exports cease. 1.6 trillion going out, 2.6 trillion coming in. That's a significant revenue source. Can America replace on it's own 2.6 trillion worth of imported goods? No.

It's suicide.

So, you want the USA to take on the planet, eh? Well.... Here is the best route to take.

Step 1: Control the ocean. Use the vast power of the US navy to quickly cripple the rest of the worlds fixed wing carriers as there is only a handful, and two of which are either laid up unable to be used (lol russia) or still in training mode (China). Plus a few more are small, middle aged smaller vessels that are used more for defense and patrolling than a real threat. Follow this up by quickly hammering the rest of the ships, everything you can hit quickly and either send to the bottom or into dock for repair. You wont get everything, but you don't need to. Just enough that what's left finds itself vastly outgunned and unwilling to get into a straight on fight. Once thats done, just sink everything. Bring global shipping to a halt. Doing this would isolate most of South America and Australia, and heavily impact Britain and the rest of the EU.

Step 2: Heavy air strikes. Hit refineries, power plants, rail centers, everything. If you can cripple their civilian communications as well, even better. Use bombers and ground based special forces to bring it all down. Government centers would obviously have backup systems, as would medical centers. BUt the rest would be SOL. If you manage to succeed in doing this step as well as the initial phase of step 1 in a tight timeframe, you could send entire populations into a mass panic. After the initial strikes, just keep at it. Eventually the US would just run out of missiles, but by that point the damage done would be immense, and repairs would be measured in months if not years. Massive long term blackouts + no incoming supplies from around the world and you just eliminated most of the world from the war as they would no longer have the means, and possibly the will, to fight the US and internal issues would be taking up most of their resources.

Step 3: Play the waiting game. The US has everything it needs to hunker down, defend it's coasts, and strike when the opportunity arises. War of attrition the rest of the worlds navies, keep global commerce via the sea lanes dead. Small embers of unrest that are already in many countries would turn into all out civil war. Countries with long standing dislikes towards each other would be at each others throats. Now you are no longer taking on the entire world, just the big dogs that manage to hold it together. South America is effectively out of the fight, as is most of Africa. China will probably be busy dealing the with inevitable fight between North and South Korea plus the potential of a very dirty war between Pakistan and India. Russia is busy annexing old territories to cement it's power. Europe is holding on, but also bolstering itself for a potential conflict with a renewed monster in Russia. Isreal is taking on all comers defending itself as the middle east erupts into a bloodbath. Mexico and Canada SHOULD have been beaten quickly in the initial phases, and won't work as invasion points. The US itself is now defended by two large oceans, and an inhospitable landmass to the north, and the rest of the world by now is dealing with other problems.

Step 5: Begin forcing surrenders and armistices. South American governments go first, as they will not have the manpower or ability to argue. Promise relief supplies and support to rebuild, install puppet governments. Kick the insane amount of available manpower they have into high gear building the essentials to keep people at home happy and keep the war going. Pick your battles carefully, use control of the oceans and air to continue to hit high value targets. Eventually more and more countries will call it quits just to end it. Mostly smaller countries, third world, and isolated. But as you do so, you begin denying valuable resources to those that want to keep fighting.

Final step: Starve the rest out. With world trade at a standstill, the middle east erupting, and conflicts everywhere, supplies will run out sooner rather than later. Fuel, food, and basic necessities become rationed, and then dry up. Use plants and supply lines to fuel unrest to cause more problems. World militaries, instead of using supplies to fight the US, are now using supplies to fight each other and keep their own territories in line and running. Millions (if not billions) are going to die at this point world wide. Mass starvation, succumbing to the elements, genocide, it's going to be insanely bad. Eventually more and more countries will either collapse entirely making them easy pickings, or flat out give up the fight. Russia, China, and Europe last the longest as their standing armies are enough to prevent a land war, but with their sea and air forces depleted they know it's a stalemate. And with much of their territories in ruins, they have enough troubles at home and go with cease fires.

End result: A draw at best. Much of the world is now under nominal US control, but mostly in terms of the Americas and Africa. Europe, China, Russia, and their territories are dealing with the aftermath of billions of people being dead and their infrastructure being in ruins. The middle east is now a lost cause as most governments have fallen to various factions, and nobody else has the time, energy, or resources to go in and clean up. It will take decades to rebuild everything, and there will be lasting resentment for probably the next few hundred years over the war. Instead of hundreds of individual countries, you now have 4 massive powers in the world that don't trust one another at all, beginning a massive cold war and arms race. The world never fully recovers, world peace never happens, and the next war literally becomes the final war as there won't be anything left standing by the end.

Mind you, if any of these steps go badly, the US is immediately on the defensive and will probably lose outright. And all of it is based purely on everything going right, and the first two steps being accomplished quickly with minimal losses. But if the US wanted to try to win, it's the best shot they have and the US Navy is key to all of it. So all in all... odds are the US wouldn't win. They sure as shit would make a mess of some people, and the death toll would probably end in the hundreds of millions at best, but it's not a fight the US could realistically win without some seriously good rolls of the dice.

The Infographics Show is pretty funny. First they made a video of who would win if China and Russia fought the US. They said the US would lose. Then they made a video of the US fighting the entire world, and they said the US wins. Both have pretty superficial reasoning.

The videos also set up very poor premises as you would, for example, have extreme economic effects happen before any such war started. If you try to estimate how a war would go you need to have at least a remotely proper context for it. People don't start fighting in a vacuum.

My neighbor is a jerk.

I have no problem with a farmer that lives a hemisphere away.

Why would I band together with my poophead of a neighbor to fight a farmer in Laos?

Clearly the non dumbasses who decided to join us, because your hypothetical situation is just silly.

We wouldn't be able to hold land due to lack of manpower that's for sure. The big question would be how we would do against a coordinated attack from the other major powers, assuming they can even work together. Now if we're talking about an invasion, I'm pretty sure we could push their shit in. We have an educated populace that is fairly well armed. Guerilla warfare on US soil put a serious hurting on any foreign invaders.

This hypothetical war would destroy the world.

Let's say no one use nuclear weapons (everyone would lose).

I'm no military expert, but :
- mondial population without US : 7.2 billions
- US : 327 millions
--> for each american killed, US would have to kill 22 people to keep the ratio.
Add the fact that US fecondity rate = 1.8 : with closed borders, you're fucked anyways!

And in addition to traditional weapons, "the world" can sway smallpox, plague, cholera or any other crap stored in laboratories.
Or fund Mexican cartels to try to smuggle massive amounts of free heroin to weaken a population that would find a chemical alternative to years of war.
It would probably take a few decades, but the US would be conquered on their soil.

In a war the rest of the world has no chance. Our navy alone and time would win it. No reason to invade. We’d take Canada and Mexico in a day and if we’re making them protectorates we could likely take south an Central America without much fighting. Maybe a few strikes. I honestly don’t know why we haven’t annexed Mexico yet. Other than rolling them into a state eventually, their people would probably vote for an eu situation tomorrow. Just have to figure a way to fix immigration from their southern neighbors. I’d say a straight up war with the cartels could happen but be put down in a day.

That’s seven armies every turn. Then we take Australia. Fuck Africa and Asia. Europe is useless.

Take Canada in a day? What are we are iraq lol
China and Russia would have already amassed forces along Canada/ Mexico border leading up to a war .

It would be a very long fight and the US would lose eventually

America would get stomped, in general. We actually are due for a comeuppance and it is coming down the pike as we speak.

The rest of the world wins pretty easily.

Also LOL at the TS using a graph that shows America having 1/3 the worlds military budget as a pro.

You must really suck at math.

Our navy cannot be touched it would be a slog but we’d win by shutting often all shipping

We don't even need to go to war.

All the USA has to do is pull its support from the navy.

The rest of the world relies so much on free trade over the oceans they would go under just from that.

USA owns the oceans. 10 times more firepower of the entire worlds navies combined.

USA has the largest arid agricultural land in the world. i.e. we don't need to import food if we don't want to. Most countries have to import a good portion of their calories. I believe it is larger than the next 3 (of similar quality) agricultural lands combined.

USA is a net oil exporter now. i.e. we have all are own oil. A simple by product of that is natural gas. We have so much we don't even know what to do with it. Mexico imports almost all their natural gas from the USA.

The USA, as a percentage of GDP, has the lowest percentage in imports and exports of ANY modern country in the world. And half of it is between Canada and Mexico. We can take a hit where other countries can't.

Canada, Mexico and the USA could basically go inclusive and there would be world wide famine and war as countries scrambled for food and energy on oceans they have no power in.

We have no neighbors that are a threat. Oceans to our sides. Canada and Mexico rely heavily on the USA. It pays to be neighbors with the USA.

And to top it all off, we are one of the only Western or Asian countries with a large amount of young people, i.e. consumers. Most countries are completely up shit creak because they don't have enough young people to support their future country as a much larger amount of old people grow old etc.....This is going to really hurt other countries economies.

Just demography alone is going to crush the economies of many countries over the next 10-20 years.

I don't think people understand just how powerful the USA is.

The USA is the ONLY superpower in the entire world.

If this is not nuclear, US would be pushed back if being offensive and trying to evade, but would be very good on defense protecting from invasion with the exception of maybe Alaska and Hawaii.

If this goes nuclear- How good is the US's THAAD defense system? I have no idea. Will it be able to block some of the nuke's coming in? Because if the US can block some nukes (all would be impossible) and have some cities survive, I'm not sure any of rest of the world has the capability to block any US delivered nukes.
