'It smells like death:' Alabama endures New York City 'poop train'

you know what's crazier
I wanna say I saw this YT doc recently that said NO nuclear waste worldwide is currently in permanent storage solutions.....ALL waste is currently in temporary, not exactly super high speed, containment areas often just chilling in water

wtf son
Yeah it has been a while since I looked into it but there are time bombs everywhere.

Here near St Louis is a really nasty one, illegally dumped Manhattan Project stuff that is basically being ignored despite being a "superfund" site. There is an underground fire moving toward it, and rain runoff is contaminated. Nobody seems to give a shit.

I know, right? Fucking lousy Southerners complaining. They should feel grateful that they get to smell poop from people from a real State.

Maybe if Yankees knew how to properly dispose of waste then it wouldn't be an issue.

Don't worry, bud. Pruitt will get to the bottom of it.

;)

LOL, we're an "immediate priority"

Here is what happens in 2018 when you're an "immediate priority" :

"Complete the public comment process and issue a signed
Record of Decision Amendment by the end of the fiscal year
2018."

Yeah, that sounds like how you deal with a radioactive emergency.

My public comment is "GET THAT SHIT THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!"

I'm with you, except that it's Missouri, so...

Conservative agenda at work. De-regulate the EPA and this will become harder to stop for Southerns but keep voting against your better judgement because Guns & Abortion will keep
Away the poop. States like New York care about their environment and found places in the South that don’t. If you don’t believe in climate change then shitting up the environment can’t be too far off.

Not an American but you can probably blame capitalism. It is profitable and "free market" right? Who need regulation when it evil and market do it itself!

I would not be surprised if socialist China and Russia have better storage. In soviet days I know cities had more regulation and all cities overy 1 million had metro system and light rail built. When people can profit of common sense stuff stuff goes to crap.

I wouldn’t call it capitalism but more of politicians taking advantage of their constituents. They people in Alabama shouldn’t blame the people of New York but the politicians they elected that allowed Alabama land to turn into a dumping ground.

Part of me wonders how much coke is in that crap.

That's fucked. I feel terrible for those people. Hopefully the city and/individuals are looking into taking action against whoever is responsible for the train being stuck there that long. Two months of shit smell is a pretty big deal, imo.

I think there are some permanent storage locations in like Iceland or Greenland. But currently the vast bulk is basically "someone else's problem".

It's the biggest issue with nuclear power, a storage solution for 10,000 years is impossibly expensive compared to 50 years of temp storage.
