Adam McKay Says Kristen Wiig’s Character Is “Dangerous”

Adam-McKay-Anchorman-2-Dragonlord.jpg

Production on Anchorman: The Legend Continues is poised to get underway next week in Atlanta, and fans are understandably eager to find out what kind of hijinks the Channel 4 news team will get themselves into in the follow-up. The entire team from the first film returns, with Adam McKay and Will Ferrell writing the script, McKay directing, and Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, and Christina Applegate reprising their roles.

New additions to the cast include Kristen Wiig as a love interest for Carell’s Brick Tamland and James Marsden as a fellow anchorman and “Ron Burgundy’s nemesis,” but plot details thus far have been few and far between. McKay recently dropped a few tidbits of information regarding the film’s story, revealing that the plot involves the newsteam angling for glory in New York City and talking a bit about Wiig’s character.

“If [Ron] wasn’t a giant A-hole, everything would be okay. By the end he’s got to be a little less of an A-hole, but that’s still a little hard for him to do. The Channel 4 news team – Brick, Champ, Christina and Brian – are back for more Sex Panther-scented adventures, this time headed in the direction of the Big Apple. “San Diego is too close to Ron’s heart to go away, but we feel that New York City is the holy grail for all newsmen.”

“Brick’s so far gone that you can’t have a relationship with him,” [McKay] laughed, admitting that Kristen Wiig’s character will be tempting him to do just that. “It takes a special someone to get a rope snare around his heart. She is dangerous!”

Anchorman: The Legend Continues opens on December 20th.

John C. Reilly to Make an Appearance in ANCHORMAN 2?

John-C-Reilly-Anchorman-2-Dragonlord.jpg

it appears that a frequent collaborator of director Adam McKay and star Will Ferrell’s may be making an appearance in the upcoming sequel Anchorman: The Legend Continues. Production on that film begins in Atlanta next week, and Bleeding Cool has a copy of a casting call sent to Atlanta agencies asking for people who look like John C. Reilly and have the same build as the actor.

It appears they’re attempting to nab a stand-in for Reilly, which means he’s most likely making at least a brief appearance in the follow-up. If the first film’s bounty of familiar faces is any indication, this won’t be the last cameo appearance we hear about for Anchorman 2. Hopefully they manage to keep at least a couple of them secret.

Marvel's Planned PLANET HULK Movie Debunked?

Planet-Hulk-0227-Dragonlord.jpg

A while ago, El Mayimbe from Latino Review posted a Marvel scoop that got everyone either really excited or really damn angry. The word was that a Planet Hulk solo movie was planned, leading into a World War Hulk type scenario with the Marvel Cinematic Universe equivalent of The Illuminati for Avengers 3. Latino Review has been on point more often that not with these type of scoops, so despite the events being predicted being a long way away, fans went along with it. But today, Mr. Beaks from AICN is debunking the hell out of the Planet Hulk story. His sources reckon this is "1,000% inaccurate".

"According to my source, this just isn't happening - not as long as Marvel's got Mark Ruffalo committed to a six-picture deal as Bruce Banner. And that's the primary issue with PLANET HULK: Banner isn't in it at all (unless you count the WHAT IF... story where Banner is immediately killed upon reaching Sakaar). To make sure, I went to a another source for confirmation, and they backed up every detail. PLANET HULK isn't happening."

Mr. Beaks says he couldn't get any details on what the plans ARE post Avengers 2, but that Ruffalo's Banner would be an "integral part of that film". This is hardly surprising given the overwhelmingly positive response from both fans and critics alike to his performance in The Avengers. At the end of the day, it's just one guy's sources over another, and both are pretty reliable. Plus, this stuff is years away, who knows what could happen?

NINJA TURTLES Release Date Pushed Back to June 6, 2014

Ninja-Turtles-Donatello-0227-Dragonlord.jpg

The heroes in a half shell will be hitting the movie theater a few weeks later than first announced. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the live-action, CG hybrid movie about the crime-fighting reptiles, has been moved from a May 16, 2014, release to June 6, 2014, Paramount announced Wednesday.

It was recently announced that Megan Fox will star in the film, which is being directed by Jonathan Liebesman. Fox will play April O’Neil, the human friend of the Ninja Turtles. Actors for the roles of the Ninjas – Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael – have not been announced. Those characters will be motion-captured. While the original May date would have pitted the film against Warner Bros.' untitled Godzilla project, the new date remains open from competition for now.

Emma Watson in Talks to Star in Kenneth Branagh's CINDERELLA

Emma-Watson-Cinderella-0228-Dragonlord.jpg

Disney would like to slip the glass slipper onto Emma Watson as the star of Cinderella. While the actress does not yet have the role, Watson is in very early talks with the studio to play the character in the live action adaptation that Kenneth Branagh will direct. Cate Blanchett will play the wicked stepmother. Mark Romanek was once attached to helm Cinderella, based on a script by Chris Weitz and a pitch by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada). Studio hopes to begin production sometime this fall and release the film in 2014.

It’s the latest fairy tale the Mouse House is getting into the megaplex after Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful, and Angelina Jolie vehicle Maleficent, based on Sleeping Beauty’s villainess.

Disney would not comment on the discussions with Watson. It also considered Gabriella Wilde (The Three Musketeers), Imogen Poots (Fright Night) and Alicia Vikander (Anna Karenina), but couldn’t lock down deals due to scheduling and other considerations.

Watson has been busy since the Harry Potter franchise finished its run at the megaplex. She received raves for her role in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and has completed roles in Darren Aronofsky’s Noah, the Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg comedy This is the End, and signed on to the drama Your Voice in My Head, that David Yates was attached to direct for Warner Bros. before he left the project last year.

THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN Moves to December 2014

Hobbit-Bard-Legolas-EW-Dragonlord-1.jpg

Originally planned for release on July 18, 2014, New Line Cinema and MGM have moved the theatrical release of The Hobbit: There and Back Again to December 17, 2014. Directed by Peter Jackson, the film is the third and final chapter of his J.R.R. Tolkien adaptation, the first part of which, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, hit theaters late last year. The second, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, is scheduled to arrive on December 13th of this year.

The new date allows for the trilogy to maintain its consistent December releases and puts it away from Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past in July. December 17 has The Hobbit: There and Back Again arriving just two days before Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment's Despicable Me spinoff, Minions and Brad Bird's mysterious Tomorrowland.

First Trailer for ERASED Starring Aaron Eckhart and Olga Kurylenko

erased-expatriate-slice.jpg

The first trailer for director Philipp Stolzl’s long-delayed action thriller Erased (formerly titled The Expatriate) has finally been released online. The film stars Aaron Eckhart as a former CIA agent who moves to Belgium with his estranged 15-year-old daughter (Liana Liberato) and takes a job as a security consultant at a multinational corporation. He soon discovers that his co-workers are gone, the corporation no longer exists and his assistant is actually a trained operative trying to kill him.

The trailer gives off a very strong Taken vibe, and certain aspects of the pic actually look pretty interesting. That said, when a film has been sitting on the shelf for over two years, it’s usually not a good sign. One thing’s for sure, though: messing with people’s daughters is a good way to provoke a disproportionate (and unfortunate) response from the father. The film also stars Olga Kurylenko and Alexander Fehling. Erased opens on May 10th.

Daniel Radcliffe to Play Igor in Fox's New FRANKENSTEIN Movie

daniel-radcliffe-slice1.jpg

It’s been quite some time since we heard anything about 20th Centry Fox’s new adaptation of the Mary Shelley classic Frankenstein, but the last word on the project was that Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe was possibly interested in taking on a starring role. The project has been in development for a couple of years, with Shawn Levy initially attached to direct before Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin, Sherlock) stepped in as his replacement last September. The pic has a script by Chronicle scribe Max Landis, and now it looks as if things with Radcliffe are actually firming up as the actor is in final talks to play Igor.

Variety reports that Daniel Radcliffe is in final negotiations to tackle the role of Igor in Fox’s Frankenstein. The film is described as “a tale of friendship and redemption,” though previous reports pegged it as a sci-fi take on the classic story. It could very well be a sci-fi tale of friendship and redemption, but as of now we don’t have much firm confirmation on what kind of film McGuigan is putting together.

Tina Fey Joins Jason Bateman in THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU

Tina-Fey-0301-Dragonlord.jpg

THR reports that Tina Fey (Mean Girls) will join Jason Bateman in Shawn Levy’s This Is Where I Leave You, adapted from the Jonathan Tropper novel of the same name. The comedy centers on a man (Bateman) whose father dies and leaves the last request that his dysfunctional family spend the next seven days together under the same roof. Fey would play Bateman’s older sister, a married woman whose first love has suffered brain damage.

Currently shooting The Muppets…Again! in Europe, Fey would transition to the Levy film after wrapping on the sequel. Production on This Is Where I Leave You is looking to start in June, though Bateman is still reading actresses for the romantic lead. Those tested include Ari Graynor, Isla Fisher, Zoe Saldana and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. The role of Bateman’s sister-in-law is leaning towards Kathryn Hahn.
