Courtney Eaton Lands Female Lead in GODS OF EGYPT

Courtney-Eaton-600x200-Dragonlord.jpg

Up-and-coming Australian actress Courtney Eaton has nabbed the female lead in Summit’s epic fantasy Gods of Egypt. Gerard Butler, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Brenton Thwaites and Geoffrey Rush are the males leads in the story, which is set in motion when a ruling god named Set (Butler) kills another, Osiris. When Osiris' son Horus (Coster-Waldau) fails in his attempt to get revenge and has his eyed plucked out, it's up to a young human thief, played by Thwaites, in love with a slave, to help defeat the mad god. Eaton will play the slave girl.

Eaton’s fellow Australian Alex Proyas is directing the project, which will shoot Down Under. Proyas wrote the script with Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Basil Iwanyk is producing via his Thunder Road Productions banner, along with Proyas via his Mystery Clock Cinema banner. The casting is a major coup for Eaton, who only has one acting credit so far: Mad Max: Fury Road, a movie that isn’t due to be released until May 2015.

Eaton was discovered by a local modeling scout in her hometown of Perth. When Fury Road began casting a wide net for actresses, producers reached out to modeling agencies in the country. The girl had no acting experience but the tape she made got her an audition with director George Miller and then several screen tests to win over studio execs. She eventually nabbed a role opposite Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron.

Press Release: In a move to forge a new legacy in the story of Peter Parker on screen, Sony Pictures Entertainment, in association with Marvel Entertainment, is developing several new projects in the Spider-Man franchise, with Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon, and Drew Goddard to collaborate on overseeing the developing story over several films that will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures, and Hannah Minghella, president of Production for the studio.

Ed Helms to Star in THE NAKED GUN Reboot for Paramount
(Posted first by HappyHaHa)

mvg1zp.jpg

Apparently Ed Helms has become the go-to guy for classic comedy reboots. He was poised to topline New Line’s Vacation reboot until creative differences over the film’s rating led to it being delayed, and now Paramount has tapped Helms to step in for Leslie Nielsen on a reboot of The Naked Gun. Variety reports that Helms will star in a new Naked Gun film with Night at the Museum and Reno 911! scribes Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant penning the screenplay. Plot details are unknown at this time, but Helms will be playing a new version of the Frank Drebin character that Nielsen made famous in director David Zucker’s 1988 original The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!

Paramount went on to make two more Naked Gun sequels in 1991 and 1994, and the films carried Nielsen’s signature brand of slapstick humor. It should be interesting to see if this new film will be in keeping with that style or if Lennon and Garant will tailor the redo more to Helms’ sensibilities.

Trailer for Simon Pegg's A FANTASTIC FEAR OF EVERYTHING

2ihtssk.jpg

Universal Pictures has released a new trailer for director Crispian Mills’ dark comedy A Fantastic Fear of Everything. Simon Pegg stars as a children’s author who tries to switch careers and write a gruesome Victorian murder mystery, but his wide range of phobias throws him into horrifying nightmares where he’s forced to confront his demons, which includes his love life, his laundromat, and a mysterious stop-motion animated hedgehog. The film continues to look like a wonderfully odd adventure, and it appears to be a nice starring vehicle that showcases Pegg’s impressive range. The film also stars Amara Karan, Clare Higgins, Alan Drake, and Paul Freeman. A Fantastic Fear of Everything will be available on iTunes January 7, 2014 and opens in theaters February 7, 2014.

Synopsis: Jack (Simon Pegg) is a children’s author turned crime novelist whose detailed research into the lives of Victorian serial killers has turned him into a paranoid wreck, persecuted by an irrational fear of being murdered. When Jack is thrown a lifeline by his long-suffering agent, and a mysterious Hollywood executive takes a sudden and inexplicable interest in Jack’s script, what should be his “big break” rapidly turns into his “big breakdown” as Jack is forced to confront his worst fears; among them love, laundromats and serial killers.

New Trailer for Renny Harlin's THE LEGEND OF HERCULES

Legend-of-Hercules-1212-Dragonlord.jpg

Twilight star Kellan Lutz plays the mythic strongman in his first stint as a leading man in a feature film for The Legend of Hercules, the trailer for which places him smack dab in his own origin story. But will the hunky actor with racks on racks on racks of abs be able to flex his acting muscles in the driver’s seat? So far, it seems doubtful that Lutz can rise above the surface of his streak of supporting roles, especially when he’s placed opposite fan-favorite Spartacus star Liam McIntyre and action star Scott Adkins. Formerly titled Hercules 3D and Hercules: The Legend Begins, The Legend of Hercules opens January 10, 2014.

Synopsis: In the epic origin story The Legend of Hercules, Kellan Lutz stars as the mythical Greek hero – the son of Zeus, a half-god, half-man blessed with extraordinary strength. Betrayed by his stepfather, the King, and exiled and sold into slavery because of a forbidden love, Hercules must use his formidable powers to fight his way back to his rightful kingdom. Through harrowing battles and gladiator-arena death matches, Hercules embarks on a legendary odyssey to overthrow the King and restore peace to the land.

Don Cheadle Will Appear in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Iron-Patriot-Avengers-Age-Ultron-Dragonlord.jpg

Bleeding Cool claims that Don Cheadle is poised to make an appearance as Colonel James Rhodes in Avengers: Age of Ultron, though they’re unsure as to the size of Rhodes’ role in the film. Considering how many characters director Joss Whedon has to juggle, one imagines Rhodes won’t have a massive screen presence. USA Today also notes that Cheadle has a part to film in the Avengers sequel, so it’s possible that he has a small but integral role to play in the story for the Marvel team-up.

Plot details for The Avengers: Age of Ultron is non-existent at this point, but production is set to get underway next March in London. The sequel will introduce new characters Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), and villain Ultron (James Spader) in addition to the already packed ensemble of the titular Avengers. Though the film’s May 1, 2015 release date is still a ways off, Marvel will be tiding fans over with next April’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier and next August’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

Update: HitFix has confirmed that Cheadle will indeed be appearing in Age of Ultron, adding that Rhodes will have "a key role in the conflict with Ultron that is the main focus of the sequel." With Robert Downey Jr. not signed on for any further standalone Iron Man films, it's possible that Marvel is making moves to set up the future of the Iron Man franchise.

Michael B. Jordan, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Casey Affleck to Star in TRIPLE NINE

2vnnpd3.jpg

Director John Hillcoat (The Road) is assembling one hell of a cast for his upcoming crime thriller Triple Nine. The Wrap reports that current awards contenders Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) and Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station) as well as the incredibly talented Casey Affleck are all in talks to star alongside Oscar winners Christoph Waltz and Cate Blanchett in the film. Talk about a killer lineup. Scripted by Matt Cook, the story centers on a group of thieves who plan to murder a cop in order to draw attention away from the heist they’ll be pulling on the other side of town. The film has been in development for some time with Charlie Hunnam previously attached to play the targeted cop, but Affleck is now in talks to take on that role.

Ejiofor is mulling over an offer to play the mastermind behind the heist, while Jordan is in talks to play a young cop working with the thieves who partners up with Affleck’s character with the intention of setting him up. Production will begin next year on what is shaping up to be an incredibly promising project.

Emilia Clarke Cast as Sarah Connor in TERMINATOR: GENESIS

Emilia-Clarke-Cast-Sarah-Connor-Dragonlord.jpg

It’s official. Emilia Clarke will play Sarah Connor in the Terminator reboot, re-teaming with director Alan Taylor, who has worked with Clarke in the HBO series Game Of Thrones. Ms. Clarke joins Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty), who is in negotiations to play her son John Connor in a storyline which involves a trip into the future. Deadline revealed that he was in talks earlier this week. Arnold Schwarzenegger is also back in his signature cyborg role. A TV series is in the works that will tie directly into the films.

This was a hotly contested role and it came down to Clarke and Brie Larson. Both actresses tested for the producers at David Ellison’s Skydance and Megan Ellison’s Annapurna, and Paramount, which will release the film in July 2015. Clarke’s breakout role came in Thrones, where she plays the dragon-commanding heroine Daenerys Targaryen in that massive HBO series. She started as a shy sister of an annoying king brother, but has demonstrated the mettle to capably play one of the screen’s most formidable heroines as originated by Linda Hamilton in James Cameron’s first two films in the series.
