Ortega is not being compensated for 226

they paid him to be ready to fight MAX. He was ready to fight Max. He should get paid.
Not his fault MAX was not ready to fight him.
He had an opportunity to fight in a promotion that is not a charity and declined to fight. The ufc is a for profit company that declined to pay two fighters who did not fight.

Sorry, doesn't work that way.
You sign a contract to fight X fighter.
Your obligation is to be ready (and on weight) to fight THAT fighter, no one else.

Again, this is a huige conflict of interest if the UFC can force you to fight someone you didn't train for.
They simply can't do that.
I'm telling you, quite literally, that this is exactly how it works. I'm a contract attorney. UFC is most analogous to an escort service dealing with 1099'ers.

Good job guys I'm thoroughly entertained. Clearly we need more pull outs and more fighters ducking late replacements.

LOL.
You are so fucking stupid, it is not worth trying to enlighten your ass.
Keep sucking up to Dana. I rather talk with people who can actually think.

Again, this is millennial idiocy. The fighter only gets paid if the contract is completed, and the contract is only completed if the fight takes place. The UFC only pays fighters when fights fall out to compensate fighters for lost time/training camp money. They're not obligated to do this unless there is a specific clause written into the contract.

And I can guarantee you that *if* there is such a clause, it also requires said fighter to accept short notice replacement fights to get paid (assuming one can be made).

TS I know you think you're surrounded by assholes but you're wrong on this one
fight was offered in his weight class, he said no - that's it man.

No you’re wrong and you guys are a bunch of assholes. You should support the fighters. He shouldn’t be forced to accept a fight on 2 days notice or go into debt if he doesn’t. He should at least get his expenses paid for.

nope.
He cannot be forced to fight someone he didn't train for. Simple as that.
The same way Jon Jones refused to fight Sonnen.

They have training camps and game planning geared towards the fighter they will fight against. Fighting someone else can render most of it useless. Different styles, different fights.

If you can;t understand this very basic concept, you don't know MMA.

No one forced him to fight. They gave him the opportunity to earn his money and he turned it down.

No dude, you're the fucking idiot. UFC fighters only get paid when they complete their contract -- which is FIGHTING. Do you have a UFC contract to show us? Go get a UFC contract copy and show me the clause where it says they get paid if the fight falls out, and are not required to accept a replacement fight.

I guarantee you one of the following is true:

1) The UFC has zero obligation to pay a fighter if the fight is cancelled (unless the fighter weighs in).

2) There may be a clause that last-minute pullouts (i.e. 1 week before the fight, or something) does require the fighter to be paid show money -- however, I can guarantee such a clause would also stipulate that said fighter MUST accept any replacement fight, or the clause is invalid.

You guys are fucking scum, Ortega did nothing wrong, the fight was pulled days before it happened. Its all on Max, why would Ortega risk his title shot that he earned and rightfully still has on someone who is a bottom feeder?

Then negotiate that into the contract and refuse to sign until that provision is present. Or vote for politicians who will change policy on independent contractors. Or complain about it on the internet. Your choice.

Why should he get paid when he refused to fight???? Ortega is perfectly free to decline the replacement fight and wait for his title shot, but he has to accept the consequences. The UFC offered him a fight and he declined it. I'm so confused why you think he should still get paid.

This is America damnit! Lol

Hmm. I think I'm gonna have to side with the rich guys who try to treat their workers as shitty as possible.

Crazy isn't it? So many of these guys must get treated like shit at work. They damn sure expect fighters to bend over any time they're asked to.

Ortega had a signed bout agreement to fight, did his job, showed up, met his obligations. You can't fault the guy for not taking a random fight on no-notice, especially when a career changing title fight is on the line. This game is feast or famine, a handful of people make all the money and everyone else gets brain damage for peanuts. You have to be crazy to pass up the locked in title shot.

I'm fine with the UFC not paying him considering he's likely to get rescheduled within a few months, but you guys complaining he didn't risk his opportunity for life changing money to appease the billionaire overlords are crazy people. The UFC wrings these guys out like towels and throws them in the bin when they are done with them.

These are the same people who kicked Georges St. Pierre on his way out the door, a career company man and rain maker. Fighters have zero advocacy. You have to advocate for yourself, good for Ortega.

LOL.

You’re getting salty over things that are facts that I’ve just stated. Tell me where I’m making something up? It’s not my fault you have a hard on for Ortega and his “foundation” even though Frankie did the exact same thing for Ortega in the previous fight. MMA legends don’t punk out from fights and you can’t give me a single example of a LEGEND punking out from a fight.

In the UFC you only get respect if you draw big. If you're Ferguson or Ortega they just don't give a fook about you.
Remember how much Dana dick rode Conor when he took the Diaz fight lmao.

Then he said Holly was stupid for not waiting for Ronda rematch.

Let's pretend you are a hooker (which is legal in a lot of places, btw). The john you agree to screw on Friday dies on Thursday. Your pimp lines up a replacement customer. You refuse to screw him. Who should pay you, and based on what legal (or moral) theory?
