Putting in your resignation

The best thing to do is tell your boss you don't feel safe working there anymore because of Helen and the anti-Semitic comments she makes everytime you use the photocopier. Maybe draw a little Swastika on her purse before you tell him.
 
I'd try to leave on the best possible terms. The world can be a small place. I ended up with a great job down the line, through the recommendation of a former boss. I never figured his brother would be interviewing me a few years later, in another state.
 
wait a minute, i'm confused. if you quit, why are you going back into work? don't most people send an email, then at that point, the company broadcasts the email to the rest of the company? after that, i'd think you then go back to work to pick up your belongings, and go home. with technology today, a simple email, and not needing to talk to anyone, would probably suffice.

i wouldn't stress over this, in my opinion.
 
The escort off the premises is done at many workplaces these days to avoid liability. If they let you work after you have given notice and you get injured, they could be paying your medical bills and possibly disability. You might do something by accident or on purpose that causes the company to get sued or costs them money. You might tell other workers or customers about your new job that causes employees to leave or customers to take their business elsewhere.

In some states, they might have to pay you two weeks if you give them two weeks notice even if they let you go right after you give them notice. In right to work states, they won't have to pay you a cent.
 
People leave jobs all the time and dont get "walked out". So if they do it might be personal. Do they have reason to think you might steal something?

I think the few were in IT and may have been policy, but it wasn't my department so not entirely sure.

I used to manage people. For the most part we usually only walked people out if they were leaving for a competitor. We wouldn't want them to have access to lists, clients, financials, trade data etc. If they were a toxic employee they would be walked out too. I was walked out for leaving for the competition as well. Just procedure. Didn't take it personally.
 
Do the right thing and write a resignation letter with a full notice and be very polite about the whole thing and when you are leaving your bosses office rip a huge fart.

ah, gotcha. i think it's definitely better to give a two-week notice, as opposed to leaving them high-and-dry, because it may kick you in the butt later on. it's good to be professional with all aspects of work, as it's a reflection of yourself. anyway, good luck dude.

To those that have done this, will they walk you to the door that day? I have heard at my company they have done this to a few people, but not everyone, so I am not sure what might happen when I do.

If you give them your notice and they walk you out then they have to pay you for that notice period, provided that actually is your statutory notice period. Lots of people mistakenly assume that they have to give two weeks’ notice but it actually depends on the legislation in your jurisdiction, because for many if not most it’s actually only one week, not two that an employee must give.
 
Giving a 2 week notice only makes you rehireable. They know you want 1 more paycheck, but they dont want you leaving with sensitive company info. Best case scenario is they give you the 2 week paycheck the day after you give notice and let you leave.
 
Do it through e-mail first. Save and print the e-mail to a thumb drive or something.

I know a few guys who put in their 2 weeks, and got "walked out" that day. After getting walked out, they applied to other jobs. When those jobs called for references HR made it seem like these dudes just quit mid way through a shift. Dick move.

Every company is different, but in most cases if you had a good working relationship and they trust you, then you give your 2 weeks notice and then you work for those 2 weeks.

However, if they've been burned by douchebags stealing shit, causing havoc, or being lazy dicks during their final two weeks then they may have adopted a policy where they escort you out as soon as you give notice.

Giving the two week notice is considered the professional way to handle things. The more important your position, the longer you give them. Our CEO gave like 6 months notice.

However, if you're convinced that they won't let you work those 2 weeks, and you don't mind burning a bridge because you're never ever going to work there again, you could just wait until the day you want to be done and then quit without advance notice on that day.

In what state is that required? I know I've fired people during the two week period because they were being dicks and I don't recall paying them out for the remainder of the two weeks. Did I break the law?
