Da Vinci wasn't necessarily "gay as shit". There is a good chance that he was celibate rather than a practising homosexual. His relationship with Melzi has often been described as platonic rather than sexual.

The image of da Vinci having a "fuckprentice" in the 40 years younger Melzi, is not one that even the "LGBT lobby" would wish to reproduce.
