Media Volk Interview : "I Wanna See How Easily He Breaks When Things Don't Go To Plan”

I mean, once Islam grabs Volk’s neck, the confidence of Volk would be gone.
No one really tries to wrestle Volk at 145lbs and Volk has handled them easy in wrestling, but this time it’s exactly opposite.
Islam will try to wrestle Volk out then definitely Volk will be the man who doesn't want any of it this time

I think we all know Volk was already getting winner of that fight before it even happened sir.
Dariush is only like 1-2 wins off of what Islams win streak right now, and I feel like the UFC fucked him.

They fuck him by trying to get him killed by Gamrot... didn't happen.
Then they take his title shot a few days before he slays said beast.

I don't know about you, but I would be tipping cars over in the parking lot lol.

  • Islam hasn't faced anyone with the calculated footwork that volk has.
  • Volk's confident in his ability to stuff takedowns and get back to his feet.
  • Everyone thinks Volk is small and short, but within 10 seconds he sees his opponents looking uncomfortable and confused.
  • Volk mentions "It's funny because they think they're the only guys that's just wrestled or something, as if we haven't been training wrestling...."

Don't know if he will win, but he can't exactly do much worse than most of Islam's opponents.

Personally I always found short stocky guys much harder to grapple, for what it's worth.
 
I would laugh if islam loses the belt that quickly lol

very unlikable champion.
 
i think he's right about everything but it all hinges if he has an answer for the body lock and takedown game. otherwise it won't matter how good his striking is when Islam can time him coming in and grab him.
 
I do wonder if his success against Ortega will impart an overconfidence in dangerous positions. Volk survived a hellacious Ortega squeeze, but Islam is levels above his strength.
 
Although I think Islam has a massive advantage in size and strength I doubt he could touch Volk with his standup. Wrestling is a different story though
 
Volkanovski and Islam are in my opinion 1. A and 1. B in terms of P4P but i just cant see him beating Islam. Islams Grappling and size will be the diffrent here.

I honestly would love to see Dariush vs Islam next because i was so off on is fight against Gamrot. Thought that Gamrot would walk through Dariush.

I just need to see how Volkanovski does at 155 before getting a TS. Would love to see him against Poirier or a Gaethje at 155. But i understand Australia needs a main event that involve Volkanovski.

I agree. If they were the same size, I would pick volk. Grappling specialists usually love facing off with smaller guys who they can lean on and outmuscle. If Islam gets on top, I think it ends quickly too. Volk's best bet is to drag the fight to the 5th round where he will be better conditioned than islam and he can try to finish him there.
 
Volk has as big advantage on the feet as Islam has on the ground.

Knocking down punching bag Oliveira after he threw a dumb flying knee has made people treat Islam as a good striker which he isn’t. He’s competent enough to set up his takedowns but Volk is twice as fast, twice as accurate and has a lot better footwork.

If it stays on the feet, Volk will dominate the fight. The question is whether Volk can survive on the ground. There’s a huge difference in grappling ability and you’re not going to nulify that with a training camp or two, just as Islam is never going be as good a striker no matter how much he trains on it.

It’s a great, intriguing fight, i can’t wait for it.

Volk talked about being nearly out, losing vision and going to sleep.

Props to him for not tapping and surviving it.
 
Volk has absolutely nothing to lose. He gets beat its because he fought the bigger man in a weight class above his own. His 145 belt isn't on the line. Meanwhile, the new champ Islam just made his first LW title defense against a smaller man who doesn't even fight in his weight class. Really not a fan of this fight at this time.

Most overrated #1 P4P ever - This dork is going to get exposed.

The fact that people think they will be able to compete and handle the grappling is idiotic to me - homie you better work your ass off to keep the fight standing, even then you will get sparked.

Olivera had a better shot grappling then Volk does.
