Wanderlei Silva and CroCops lack of success in the UFC?

It's amazing how these Pride fighters literally join the UFC at the tops of their careers, coming off having just won their titles / lost their titles in Pride's final sendoff events...

And then as soon as they underperform in the UFC months later they have to have become suddenly totally shot in the months in between.

Never change you Pride cucks.

Wand had two heavy KO losses right before he came to the UFC, and a long career before that.

lol @ you ignoring that.
Imagine if Volk gets KO'd in his fight with Topuria. I don't see him climbing up the ranks again after back to back KO losses. He would be another Frankie Edgar/RDA. That's what the UFC got with post-Pride Wand.

I don't have the data with me but I'm pretty sure former Pride champs have more wins against former UFC champs.

As a huge fan , steroids effect different fighters differently... guys like Rampage who did have success were blessed genetically and didn't need the same help better fighters with worse genetics benefited from.

Wanderlei on the juice was a monster.. he could use all of his skills and not be overpowered by guys like rampage... same with Crocop... the second he left the ufc he won like 10 in a row and looked like his young self again..

Wanderlei's career started in 1996, he didn't join the UFC till 2007, 11 years into his career and was 31-7-1 (1)NC for 39 total fights and had finished his Pride career with back to back KO losses. His prime was over before he joined the UFC, same goes for Cro Cop who had like 100 fights between boxing, K1 and MMA and was having lots of ankle and leg injuries. Cro Cop's career also started in the mid 90s.

Context, something that all these threads lack sir.

This is spot on. Wand got the "left leg cemetery" from Cro-Cop. Then the H-Bomb from Hendo in back- to-back fights.

As for Cro-Cop, I think the rule differences and fighting in a cage instead of a ring were just too big of an adjustment for him.

Cage vs Ring is a factor. Both should have been a division lower than they were too when they moved to the UFC IMO.

They also had a ridiculous amount of wear and tear for guys in their early thirties. First, they were both basically kill or be killed type of fighters, which was encouraged in Japan. They'd both been badly KOd prior to coming to the USA.

CroCop had over 50 K1/MMA fights, which is crazy. Basically 5 fights/year for 10 years straight. Wanderei was the same with like 40 MMA fights and training hard at Chutebox.

And they did can crush a bit in Pride, but it wasn't like they had 15 easy fights at local shows before they hit the big time. Compared to guys that got into the UFC relatively early in their careers they had an absurd number of fights. Chris Weidman, Leben, Uriah Hall, Dominick Reyes: WAY less fights by age 30.

By like age 31 CroCop had fought Barnett x 2, Hunt, Wanderlei x 2, Coleman, Fedor, Alex E, Randelman x 2, Big Nog, Igor, Fujita, Herring. And in K1: Hunt, Bojansky, Aerts, Hoost x 3, Le Banner. And about 25 other dudes.

CroCop had 14 MMA fights in 2004 and 2005!! Imagine Tom Aspinall doing that, or Jiri P. It's crazy, even with PEDs. Colby Covington has been in the UFC for 10 years and has only 15 fights total, by comparison.

Wanderlei had 10 MMA fights in 2000 and 2001, against Tito, Guy Mezger, Yvel, Hendo, Sakuraba x 2.

Wand 5-7 in UFC
Cro Cop 5-6 in UFC

Overall Wanderlei's fights were more exciting and Cro Cop's losses were worse overall

Wand 5 decision losses 2 KO losses

Cro Cop 1 decision loss 5 KO losses

I feel like Cro Cops only memorable win was his revenge on Gonzaga

and Wand gave us many great fights against Stann, Lee, Liddell, Jardine and the Franklin fights were decent too.

I am a big CC fan just putting it into perspective.
To be fair cro cops balls being smashed repeatedly by Kongo shouldn't be a loss on many levels.

It’s because a significant amount of their fights in PRIDE were favorable mismatches.
What?
CC was fed every top grappler there was. Usually, criticism for top strikers is for not facing grapplers and CC faced them all.
No idea who he didn't fight that he should have mate. He fought almost everyone that was ranked in Pride.

Plenty of PRIDE fighters have performed well in the UFC as well. That whole UFC vs. PRIDE shit is over bro.

Reminiscent of Anderson's "lack of success" in Pride and Chuck getting his ass handed to him and heading back to enjoy easier competition?

<seedat>
Chuck went 2-1 in Pride with KOs over Guy Mezger and Alistar Overeem, lmao. Anderson went 2-2*

*Yakuza money.

i hate these threads now. thank god there are some OGs dropping facts

Such a retarded topic..Wand didn't come into the ufc on some crazy run while in his prime. He was flatlined by mirko and hendo back to back in his last 2 pride fights. He was 4-4 in his last 8 pride fights and 4-5 in his UFC run. You could argue he exceeded UFC expectations considering how his last 2 pride fights went.

Around the time Pride folded the MW and LHW belt was in the hands of two PRIDE standouts that just transitioned a bit earlier.

PRIDE legend Rampage Jackson, the guy that couldn't get the belt there despite ample opportunity, took the belt in a minute in his second fight from the hands of the biggest star the UFC had, in May 2007.

PRIDE fledging hot & cold midcarder, twice hired and twice cut after embarasing loses, Anderson Silva; the same guy that ditched a straight title shot to the UFC WW belt with a contract already signed, for the opportunity to fight in the midcard in PRIDE; got his belt in his second fight destroying two UFC standouts, including the one that promised "he'll KO him and send him back to Japan where the competition is easier " in October 2006.

But Silva was in his prime after two back to back leave-in-a-stretcher KOs... whatever

Its a mix of factors imo. Partially decline through age and/or mileage, partially that the Pride environment with its larger than life presentation, relative frequency of squash matches and total lack of drug testing made some guys look better than they really were.

People tend to jump to one extreme or the other when it comes to Pride though.

Wanderlei did ok. He got KOd a couple times but went out with a great performance other than the drug test scandal lol.
