Just ate half a watermelon last night. I've been experiencing a watermelon-eating renaissance this summer. I've found the most satisfying way to eat it is cut in half or in quarters, using a spoon rather than directly using the mouth. It is so satisfying to dig out giant bites and eat them. Also a lot less messy.

Love watermelon. Bought a 22lb one the other day was going to cut it up this morning but some family was coming over, so I didn't because I'm a selfish prick that didn't want to share.


This week I planted some sugar baby (lunchbox watermelons) and crimson sweet in the yard. Supposedly "icebox watermelons often mature in as little as 75 days". That will be a long 75 days.

On the topic of watermelon. On my last trip to the market I bought a 15 pound one from a batch that I thought looked a little suspect. But I crossed my fingers and picked the best looking one. Later on that day when I cut it open, turns out it was a soft, mushy, and grainy (overripe?) on the inside. There's no worse feeling.
