It still amusing reading "i dont like this bond actor because he looks like i could beat him up."

Bond is a FUCKIN SPY you jack wagons hes supposed to blend in and look non threatening.

Also punk lasted longer against gail than any of you would have against moore of brosnan

even old moore or brosnan lets be honest fatties.

Sean Connery is 007, everyone else is just a stand in knowing the inevitable doom that Sean Connery isn't 007 anymore.

Connery is the best Bond, because he subsumes all the facets of Bond in a way that others could only project partially, but my favorite is Craig simply because I love the dark, visceral, angry, sardonic side of Bond the most.

My favorite Bond film is between Craig's best, Casino Royale, and the one that I think probably has the strongest script, but the weakest Bond: On Her Majesty's Secret Service. If it had starred Connery I think it would have vied in the vibrant debate up until the turn of the millenium over which Bond film was best. It also lacks a truly distinctive Bond henchman like Oddjob, Jaws, or Onatopp. I think that's why it flies so far under the radar.
  1. Casino Royale
  2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
  3. Goldeneye
  4. Goldfinger
After this I don't think I'm ever consistent. From Russia with Love is the obvious choice, but Moore's best film, The Spy Who Loved Me, never seems to get the love it deserves. I also have a real soft spot for Octopussy, and favor Thunderball as much as most franchise fans.

I acknowledge that Dr. No & Skyfall are in the better half of the 25 films so far, but I don't like them nearly as much as everyone else, and for that reason find them to be the two most overrated in the franchise. The latter has definitely been growing on me with re-views. Not the former.

Halle Berry in Die Another Day stands out for the hands down worst performance playing the hands down worst character in the hands down worst film in the franchise's history.

I'm watching Octopussy on StarzEncore and thought I'd put it to a vote on here. The last thread asking that question was in 2013 and the thread is no longer available. Let's make a 2016 poll and see what happens.

I was originally going to make a "What's your favorite Bond movie" poll but with only 15 options in the poll I'd have to leave some out and lump a bunch of unpopular ones together, which I didn't want to do.

Instead, we can do favorite Bonds. You can pick from Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton, Brosnan, Craig, and Niven.

When voting, you can also post what your favorite Bond pick is, and if we get enough feedback I'll keep a tally in this post.

In case you didn't remember, here's the filmography of the various Bonds.

Finally, if you hate Bond movies or whatever, this thread is not for you so don't bother coming in here and whining.

Timothy Dalton and The Living Daylights. I think Dalton is underrated because Licence to Kill was such a weak film, but Living Daylights by contrast was an awesome Bond film. Pierce Brosnan bored the shit out of me, and I think Ewan McGregor should have been the next Bond instead of Daniel Craig to draw in a younger audience. Daniel Craig did draw well at the box office, but I never understood the appeal. Craig to me was very conventional and didn't convey much of a magnetic personality (he was kind of a stuffy bond).

this thread reminded me of the greatness of Casino Royale:
-best poker game in film
-white knuckled action scenes
-Bond busting through drywall
-Bond throwing a gun at a terrorist
-first full back mount rear naked choke(??)
-evil Mads Mikkelsen
-Eva Green
-Bond madly in love
-Daniel Craig laughing in the face of torture
-then in the end..Bond, James Bond

so I voted Craig

I just love goldeneye. I've seen every single bond movie in the last 16 or so months. Connery is the best, still voted for brosnan.

Goldfinger and you only live twice are one and two. Goldeneye third best film, still voted goldeneye as it's my favorite.

I will understand and accept many many Man different answers though. This ones tough. Even lazenby and his movie were/was unique

Seriously, most everyone's answers I can agree with in some way. Well, some are kinda weird, not the bond chosen cuz seriously I love them all. So different they are all.

Just a few movie choice I'm kinda not getting. Just a few

Edit:

I've had such a long drinking night and now in couch, trying to muster thumb stengitj and anger at cell phone spelling it give a super long winded explanation of the pros of each bond

Casino royale is amazing and either top 3-6 my opinion. But it should not be leading. Understandable with you young gents and the influence of mission inpossible and especially Jason Bourne. Daniel craig was the first bond to basically be the badass Bourne. (Bourne came first, Craig's bond played off this huge success )

Double edit:

Connerys bond was the most suave, but lost many many fights and got. Wry very lucky many times. Bond was a lucky man in the many first films. Not some unstaloppable badass like Jasonbourne . I kinda blame that series for tainting Craig's bond, but still great bond and great movies(sans QOS)

Sean Connery followed by Pierce Brosnan I think. Movie From Russia with Love
I grew up more with Brosnan but Die Another Day is such garbage that I'll vote Connery.

Fleming said he wrote Bond as a jack of all trades, master of none. So he was a very good fighter, marksman and driver. But true specialists would always beat him in their particular field. There's a reference in one book to Bond being rag-dolled by the MI6 unarmed combat instructor.

One of the things that made Bond so dangerous was his relatively broad base of knowledge that allowed him to defeat experts by forcing them out of their comfort zones. Goldfinger is a classic example; Bond can't beat Odd Job in a straight fight. So he improvises and electrocutes him. While the bowler hat lodging in the bars and the electrical cable being within easy reach was lucky, Bond still had to think fast enough to take advantage of it.

Connery for Bond...fav movie, You Only Live twice, or Moore's 1st outing, Live & Let Die, tuned out during Moore's time, haven't seen any of Brosnan's or Craig's Bond movies and have zero interest to do so.

Wonder how much more epic the Sean Connery movies could be if he was in his prime now and they filmed them. With special effects and everything.

You mean you'd actually want to see Connery's epic Bond films pervaded and disgraced with shitty CGI, filmed digitally, and held hostage to PC culture? No thanks.

Aw man, at the very least you gotta give GoldenEye a try.

Craig bond is the only one i can watch and take seriously like a badass.

All the other bond movies i have to watch with this face.

<{MindBrown}>
<{clintugh}>
<DisgustingHHH>
<Huh2>

Craig

Casino Royale

Now as far as the best traditional portrayal of Bond, and what I imagine him to be like, I think Brosnan actually had it down the best. I just like Craig's rougher take on the character.

I prefer Daniel Craig as bond but only Casino Royale is great,2nd one decent 3rd and 4th were absolute ass.

The best movies are all with Sean

Connery is the best old school Bond, and Brosnan did well in the later conceptions. But definitely the GOAT Bond is that new guy rumored to play the role...because I'm not racist.

Connery is my favorite even though I grew up with Moore's movies. I've seen For Your Eyes Only the most times because it was on HBO when I was a kid all the time but I love Goldfinger and From Russian With Love.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service is my favorite the story differs from the rest until Craig showed up and is unintentionally hilarious. Skyfall was probably the best film.
