Presidential Pardons

al franken gets to stay in the Senate.

john conyers doesn't face expulsion.

liberals are double-standard hypocrites.
aren't all hypocrites "double-standard" by definition?

Do you approve of a 34 year old trying to diddle a 14 year old? Franken was never banned from a mall.

i'm extremely consistent.

ban all repubs accused of this, after you ban all dems accuse of this.

or just let the voters decide.

In light of all the talk of Flynn receiving a pardon and the history of Mark Ritch, Iran Contra convictions being commuted, is there an argument for doing away with presidential pardons altogether?

Surely as the head of the executive, and upholding the law of the land as even just an optics issue, shouldn't this be done away with entirely?

Interested in alternative viewpoints.

I think they're garbage and just a way for friends to excuse friends, or last minute money grabs for presidents.

Check out the presidential pardons from the last few presidents and when they happened.

You usually get a bunch while they going out of office.

And most of them make no sense.
They just seem like random pardons.

the Justice Dept doesn't do that.

they selectively prosecute people.

see Hillary Clinton.

All DA’s at every level around the country make that decision on a daily basis. No departments have enough resou cues to prosecute every case.

but the Justice Dept has enough resources to go after their political enemies.

the problem here is that Democrats have supported Bill Clinton 100%, and only 16 years later taken a stand.

if this pardon is wrong now, why was it okay for 16 years ???

Things change. That’s why we have women who can vote, desegregated schools, gays serving openly in the military, and men being held responsible for harassing women at work.

Do you remember the hell that Congress put Anita Hill through? Can you imagine that happening now?

It's called 'professional discretion.' Legal coherence and republican slashed funding play roles in determining the docket. HRC was not prosecuted bc there was no crime that could meet those factors.

HRC and the FBI are really in collusion...which isn't a crime...by the way. haahahahaa

Sure, I'm all for that just as soon as all the previous people who was pardoned by PREVIOUS PRESIDENTS get locked back up with NO possibility of parole even for good behavior.

Deal?

DOJ is completely corrupt, they actually covered up the Democrats' crimes.
Wrong.

The problem here is that obstruction of justice was an impeachable offense for a president (Clinton) to over 40 congressman still in congress.

Now the imbecilic Right is claiming that the president can obstruct law bc its in his job description.

That's a double standard that is relevant. Your horseshit is just more straw talking points.

What's stopping someone like Doctor Doom from hacking the fuck out of everything, dominating the fake news social media, bribing and murdering his way to the presidency, then when caught, pardoning all henchmen and pardoning himself?
Dr Doom's lawyers are currently trying to argue he can't obstruct justice because he's the President.

You sound asinine. We get it. You hated having a right wing black man as president. Let it go. Trump should let it go as well but his contrarian presidency would crash faster than it already is crashing.
