Why does RIZIN get so much more attention than ACB around here?

RIZIN just does a far better job promoting themselves. ACB has great talent but they don't make you feel as invested as RIZIN does, it's an issue the UFC has too. RIZIN promotes every single fight as if it's at the top of the card, their RIZIN CONFESSIONS series has been great at familiarizing fans to the fighters (they are all English subbed which is huge). While nostalgia is probably a big reason for people, I love that RIZIN brings in a diverse range of talent and have some great young fighters. You got high level kickboxers like RENA and Tenshin, one of the undisputed top MMA fighters in the world with Horiguchi, world class wrestlers like Kanako Murata, and so many others. People focus on the legends and veterans and seem to not realize how young their roster actually is. Throw in the ring, soccer kicks/stomps, and the 10 minute opening round, it just hits so many notes for me.

I still watch ACB, they are a great promotion but in the end it's RIZIN that I always find myself counting down the days until the next event

You barely need to pay attention to it because they barely have any cards and you can know all the main fighters..

This is pretty much it. Almost every fight in RIZIN has the feeling and thearetics of a main event. There are very few fights in RIZIN which feel likeunneccecary undercard filler. So that makes it easy to follow the story line of every fighter, since no fighter is there just to fill up a card but every fighter is there to tell some kind of story

Also RIZIN has variety - woman's fights, freakshows, kickboxing, Pro-wrestling inspired promos etc...The variety helps with fan interest.

In ACB we have to watch 12 fights which mostly feature generic looking caucasians with names like

Magomed Magomedov vs Hazbulat Hazbulatov
Magomed Mamomed vs Hazbulat Magomedov
Hazbulat Magomedov vs Magomed Hazbulatov
Cesas Ferrario vs Magdural Hazbumedov

and each time it's the same boring ruleset (Unified rules and the cage suck ass) and the same shitty production values

At least ACB is not fake and gay like the UFC and at least it's free..

Why does RIZIN get more attention ? Magical storytelling and Variety..

Keep in mind that RIZIN is not always a success, sometimes they have Japanese vs Japanese fights that are horible and boring but those are in the minority

Those "generic caucasians from the undercard" would wreck someone like Yusuki Yachi or Daron Cruickshank in an actual fight though. That wouldn't even be close.

People don't care about the actual sports. They need "production value with fireworks",ex -UFC guys and freak shows like Gabi Garcia vs Yumiko Hotta to get invested in a show.

ACB's slogan is "Less show, more fighting". If you want to watch actual competitive high level fights you'd lean towards that,if you want to watch JMMA freak shows because of an entertainment factor, you'd pick Rizin. I think each russian promotion (FNG,ACB,M-1,WFCA) is better than Rizin in terms of it's talent. The only notable fighter on Rizin's roster is Horiguchi.

oh look, another nerd acting like he's better than everyone else because he watches mma for the "sport"

Acb seems to have 3 events a month and I find out the same week of the event and 0 promos. They don’t know how to sell fights. I went to their Canadá show and was brutal. Very few fans (less than 500) and overall the show sucked big time

This thread shows me many mma fans are bigger fans of the borrowed pro wrestling elements and theatrics rather than fights regardless of if its recognized or not.

Fair enough.

How is he acting superior? He's doing the same thing everyone else in here is doing of ACB, simple critiques. Quit being so sensitive

The irony of the pink compared to the bolded is amazing.

UFC is fake and gay? Seriously? Half the fights in Rizin last night were barely one step above having predetermined winners.

If you ever see any sportsbook dumb enough to take bets on Rizin and the odds aren't ridiculous, let me know so I can rake in some cash.

because Rizin is much more entertaining

I find constant fights on my fight cards more entertaining than cards with 40 minute interrmissions and 20 minute fighter intros. I guess that's where I'm finding a disconnect here. Do we watch mma to watch mma? What am I missing?

I agree their promotional skills are awful. I've often wondered if the promotion is just a money laundering front since they have so many great fighters and seemingly no live gate.

Not really my concern though. The fight quality is fantastic.

I agree

Can people explain the appeal of ring mma to me? I've never gotten it. Constant resets and interruptions of the action.

People say the cage favors wrestlers but in modern mma with a proper takedown defense and get ups game the cage is much more appealing. Nothing annoys me more than fighters crawling under the ropes for resets and shit like the refs helping Aoki get takedowns on Hansen with the ropes in DREAM, fights are much more fluid and controlled in a caged environment.

Not to mention the inherent unneccessary danger you put fighters in of falling out of the ring. Just way more things that can go wrong in a ring setting that disrupt a proper fight.

It looks much better and forces more action due to the tight corners

Frankly, at this point I think ACB's ineptitude at marketing their fights is part of the charm. Its downright hilarious how talented their roster is in relation to the size of their crowds (or just the amount of people watching their streams).

They're run by an Checheyan oliagarch who runs the promotion like his pet hobby -- so they pretty much don't have to care about finances at all.

But that points to the structural weakness of ACB and other Russian promotions. If the sponsoring oliagarc suddenly grows disinterested or indespossed for whatever reason then the promotion would most likely fall shortly thereafter. Unlike normal fight promotions that are bought-and-sold (or destroyed) on their financial viability.

5Dimes and some other sportsbooks had odds for at least some of the bouts for Rizin yesterday. I won money on both Cruickshank and Yachi plus a parlay of Hamasaki + Tenshin as well as some other bets.

Pinnacle bet and 5 dimes take bets on RIZIN all the time

By the way, speaking of fixed fights, all the bookies took bets on a legit fixed fight in the UFC involving Tae Hyun Bang. When the rumor broke that he was going to take a dive, the bookies were so honorable to adjust the odds against him. I remember it well because I made money of their stupid asses, so yes
UFC IS FAKE AND GAY AND THE BOOKIES DON'T CARE

The reason that a lot of bookies don't have RIZIN odds is that it's a market that only people with an IQ 2 standard deviations higher than normal take an interest in and the bookies don't want to tangle with such people; they would rather deal with the rednecks who watch UFC and who are easy to make money off.

see you later, sweetie pie

Sure, I can try to explain why I prefer it at least.

Primarily, ring ropes are more difficult to use as a tool in a fight compared to a fence, making the fight more about 1 man vs 1 man rather than who can utilise their environment the best.
For example, if you get taken down in a cage you can use the fence to push off and sweep, or to wall walk and get back up (impossible in a ring). Similarly wrestlers can hold you against the cage and wear you down, or wear the clock down (much more difficult in a ring).
If done fairly and quickly i actually like resetting in the centre, as it ensured the fighters always have room to work. Somethong aalot of people would like to see is fighting in an open area and a ring is closer to simulating a fight in an open area, thanks to resetting in the centre (at least during groundwork). Also, the flexibility and large gap between the ropes mean fighters can go for leg and armlocks in any position and are less likely to be blocked off by ropes than they are by a fence.
In summary of this point; while you might think that the ring interferes in the fight more it actually interferes and is much less of a factor than a cage is.
That's why I like it more.

A completely separate benefit is that it induces more entertaining striking bouts due to the ease in which you can corner your opponent.

Also in terms of visibility it's much better although that only really applies to live audiences.

When I was bored I actually designed the perfect fighting area which is neither a ring nor a cage, in fact its a lot closer to a cage so I'm not tied to the idea of a ring at all, I just think it's better for a real 1 on 1 fight than a cage is.

One fighter took money to take a dive (not to the promotion’s knowledge), then went out and won anyway.

Doesn’t compare to Rizin stacking the odds so far in their chosen fighters’ favor that they might as well have predetermined outcomes. This, after having pro wrestling style promos and entrances.

Rizin is Beverly Hills plastic surgery level fake and San Francisco level gay.

I've never watched ACB. Where does one watch it in the US? As for why I enjoy Rizin I love the Japanese culture aspects, the pageantry & sly humor. I enjoy wmma, which Rizin offers. I love their embedded type series, called Rizin Confessions & it's subtitled in English. Yes Rizin has some less than engaging fights, but I enjoy the entertainment aspects. To me it's not just about fighters beating each other up. It's also about the fighters themselves, the cultural aspects and the wide variety of entertainment & fights.

RIZIN is the London Philharmonic u herb

For SURE a fighter in the UFC literally getting indicted for fight fixing is less worse than lopsided matchmaking, a staple in every promotion ever, tho
