That’s the cost. Or do you expect the people accused not to fight back? Or are we reversing course on 1000 guilty men go free...?
Sorry, that doesn't make any sense. People who are not part of the case dragging the character of some woman who they don't know through the mud has nothing to do with the accused fighting back.
Guy in Ames, Iowa rapes some girl. People who are not the guy in Ames, Iowa say the woman invited it. Her co-workers treat her differently. Her neighbors look at her as complicit. None of those social costs involve the defendant fighting back in a court of law.
