There was not a complete loss of law and order in Portland, there was roughly 100 protestors blocking one street. You're making it seem like it was a Bane style takeover of Portland.

The unfortunate part is that we're starting to see how history rhymes here. The US has a heavy martial culture, so as Antifa's activities keep pushing the envelope its going to have a reaction. And that reaction is looking like a Brown-shirt redeux American style.

I live in a fairly small town in SW PA, county of about 250,000 ppl. Hour south of Pittsburgh, half hour north of Morgantown WV.

I would absolutely love to see them try that here. I just can't even imagine. I mean, within minutes there would be 4x4s everywhere and good ole boys asking why they're harassing innocent people. Not to mention all the fun the cops would have with these goons.

I'm going to disagree here. Where are the police? Why is civil authority suspended in this case? People protesting in traffic isn't much of a story in itself. But menacing motorists obviously can lead to an escalation, as it did here and in other places. So why did the police allow it?

That's the story, that police stood down. The underlying reason for the right's reaction to antifa type protestors is that they seem to be tolerated by authorities even when they are violent.

That's exactly why people that were center or not even political started leaning right. You have leftists crying about being labeled fringe weirdos when in actuality these fringe weirdos are coming from places such as academia, politicians, and others in influential positions. Plus when these idiots start causing chaos, you don't hear any condemnation, they just say stuff like "boo hoo, some people held up traffic".

The one vehicle that got attacked in any serious way was the one that drove into a protestor. Being frustrated with the protestor doesn't justify driving into them but I understand that merely protesting in traffic seems to some here justify being executed via vehicle so they'll ignore that detail.

They weren't supposed to be there in the first place, plus they have a reputation of attacking anybody and everybody.

This part I completely agree with. You don't murder somebody because they are causing you an inconvenience. That would be, well, murder.

But the police really need to shut this stuff down immediately. You can't allow people to break the law because you think that enforcing the law might cause more issues. At that point, you've completely given power away to the lawbreakers. I'd understand taking a hands-off approach if there was very little risk of injury, damage to property, or escalation, but I don't see that being the case here. These guys should have been shut down pretty quick.
