The 70% figure of muslims in France is made up. France doesn't record the religious affiliation of their prison population. That number is cited from a book attributed to an author who HIMSELF disprove the number. The closest to official numbers are 27% (which registered for Ramadan), but it could likely be higher. Other cohorts have shown that in the young age demographics that it might be up to 39% (1). With muslims being 8% of the population, it is still an overrepresentation of about 3-4 times the genpop, which is a legitimate problem. It is not 70% however.

Look, I dislike religious dogma as much as anyone, but you cannot tackle issues without being honest about the way you create your world view. You need to create an accurate description of a problem before you can change it.

Seeing one big bad (China) taking on another big bad (jihadists), brings a smile to the face of people who have no love for either.

However, the angle here is whether these people are truly extremists, or just people who practise their religion in a more fundamental (yet non-violent) manner. That's something which I would question due to China being involved.

We all know that the notion of "being extreme" is quite different in China, than here in the West. Wearing a different color shirt might be seen as being too radical.

" Extremist " is a word that gets thrown around a lot though, a bit like "terrorist" . The rightwing will tag someone like Sanders or Alexandria Cortez as extremists , while the liberal establishment will tag anyone like Tommy Robinson or Ann Coulter an extremist. I wouldn't call any of them extremists. An extremist Muslim may very well just be a Muslim living according to the Quran and Hadiths, so one could say the book itself is extremist but the MSM will never say that, they will just apply that label to certain individuals and groups while missing the elephant in the room. You can say the same thing about Jews following the Talmud faithfully, that they are extremists or Hindus who follow strict Hindu ideology faithfully are extremist, because lets face it all these religious ideologies have a strong strain of intolerance.

And yeah I agree it is not easy to side with extremists, and it is not easy to trust Chinese definitions of what is extreme. That's really the only place for reasonable discussion, how those two factors interplay. Not a simple task though.
