Position before submission is something all rookies should focus on. This is a fairly general mistake, that lots of new guys and even some seasoned guys make once in a while.

Being new to training BJJ doesn't mean the guy can't cover MMA from a journalistic point of view.

Never done systema or krav, but i have a little experience doing escrima/kali and they all sound fairly similar in that they're all "reality based" self defense styles. i enjoyed doing the filipino stuff, but ultimately gave it up to focus more on sub wrestling/bjj and boxing/kickboxing
