We criticize boxers and managers for cherry picking opponents. Now we have seen Wilder get back in the ring with Fury and Spence with Bud after both got beat up. Like to see the competitive spirit, even if its not always smart.
It was later in Manny's career, but every time Crawford was brought up as a potential opponent, Freddie very quickly dismissed it. He also picked Crawford over Spence.
I think prime Crawford with his switch hitting counterpart punching and good movement would have been a problem, even for prime...
How about saying he was damaged goods after his wreck, despite beating the pulp out of Ugas?
Spence was always a methodical, technically sound boxer who had size advantage over most guys at 147. He was never an athletic freak or boxing savant like the all timers. Doesn't mean he wasn't/isn't...
One thing that was wild about the fight to me was how little concern Bud had for Spence's power. If you watch these highlights, you see at 42 seconds he gets nailed by a Spence left hook and doesn't even react. Then on his second knockout he purposely (it seems) retreats to the ropes, takes some...
What a brilliant, virtuoso performance by Bud. The most dominant performance over a game, top opponent I can remember since Manny vs Cotto.
And what a shame (on Bob) that it took until 35 for Bud to prove his boxing genius even to hardcore boxing fans. He has such a fan friendly style -...
I think this is his best strategy. He will get tagged trying to get in and out of range if he tries to pressure Bud.
One advantage Spence has is that he's a bit more disciplined than Bud. I could see Bud trying to retaliate vs Spence, getting reckless and then getting hurt and eventually...
How accurate are these scales? A high number of fighters end up weighing exactly the limit, which seems really unlikely. Is it possible that the scales are rigged to show everyone from say 147.0 to 147.5 as weighing 147.0? There's a lot of money to be lost from that extra half pound.
