A-level athlete defined

wait, urlacher made it through school, played in the nfl for many years, is a grown ass man, and cant properly make a fist to throw a punch? is this real life?
Who needs a thumb if you are an A level Athlet ?!

I'm guessing a few larger ones might be able to in less skilled positions, no NFL player would be anywhere close to the standard needed for high level soccer though.

I cannot believe someone really believes this.

Zero NFL players could just step into high level soccer. Agree

But you think some soccer player could just step into the NFL?? That is so stupid it's painful.

All of these guys are elite athletes. It's the years of training specific skills that allows them to compete in their own sports at the highest levels. If these NFL skill position guys and DB's grew up playing soccer instead there is no question some would be elite and play and succeed at the highest levels. But in the U.S. they are following the $. Just like in other parts of the world the top athletes gravitate toward soccer or other sports to follow the $.

This really isn't complicated.

A level athlete is a power fantasy for fat guys to invest their low self esteem in, like superman comics are for kids. The reason fatso cant get on in life is hes not an a level athlete...if he had their gifts hed be amazing and noble and save cats from trees

Just work hard and take steroids you plebs

Fighters are different animals, you can be the greatest athlete in the world and you'll suck at fighting unless you have that spark

Back in England in the 50s and early 60s there was a salary cap on soccer players, even the greats had to have day jobs to make ends meet. Athletics, Rugby, Tennis we're strictly amateur. Meanwhile boxers were getting huge purses. How many of the A level athletes transitioned to boxing and that big money? None of them, if you haven't got that spark fighting is not for you.

We have seen physically gifted men transition relatively quickly into the NFL like Stephen Neal, not in the skilled positions but it is possible where as in soccer its simply not, even someone like Usain Bolt who's actually put a lot of time into it(and would likely bring in a lot of sponsorship interest as well) hasn't gotten any high level interest.

Your talking the difference between a sport were some of the positions are highly skilled needing many years of work(the NFL) and a sport where all of the positions are(soccer).

There are two glaring issues with what you've said here.

1. The size requirements needed to play certain positions in the NFL mean the pool of humans being to choose from to fill those spots is quite obviously MUCH smaller than it is to play soccer (any position in soccer). So yes Stephen Neal or Antonio Gates or Jimmy Graham were able to transition over to football and have success. But they never would have even gotten the chance if they literally weren't in the top 1% of human beings from the combination of athleticism PLUS sheer size. You can't do what they did just "being a great athlete coming from another sport". You have to be that PLUS have physical size that 99% of humans don't possess. Keep in mind the guy that Neal beat for his NCAA wrestling title (Brock Lesnar) also tried to make an NFL roster and could not despite being a genetic freak. So guys like Neal are extremely rare. There have been a few (I mentioned 2 others), but that's it.

2. So piggybacking off point #1, we were talking about soccer players transitioning to the NFL. No soccer players that I know of possess the sheer size needed to play the specialized positions that you are referencing. Soccer players are skilled athletes like WR's, RB's, DB's, etc. in the NFL. Those are the only positions where professional soccer players would have the necessary size to be able to play. And no soccer player would ever be able to just pick up the skills needed to step into the NFL and play one of these positions well.

So while Tyreek Hill (for example) is likely faster than any soccer player on earth (assuming Bolt is done with soccer LOL), he couldn't step onto a pitch and compete in the EPL after practicing for a year or whatever obviously. But nor could Neymar try to learn to play WR for a year or two and make an NFL roster. And no soccer players could play on the line or TE because they are just too small.

I'd agree the difference is the NFL has more of a physical requirement that a smaller percentage of people can meet but if you do meet that requirement its possible to transition into certain positions relatively quickly. A larger percentage of people could play soccer physically but every position is a high skill role like a quarterback/running back so transitioning quickly into it simply isn't possible, you need many years of training and most people simply won't have the aptitude to pick it up to the level needed.

Been sayin that in every one of these stupid threads.

Right, I don't disagree with any of that. But the post I replied to said essentially that no NFL players could play soccer at the highest level, but soccer players could play in the NFL. Which is absurd. That's all I was saying. Neither could just transition over, they lack the years of training specific skills necessary (and in the case of soccer players the size necessary for positions where it's possible to transition more quickly).

He is right, an american football guy would struggle a lot with soccer, extremely different sports.

And 99% of soccer players would get annihilated on the gridiron.

The skill positions in the NFL attract some of most ridiculously athletic human beings.

God I hope you are trolling....

When it comes to technique and coordination, most American football players can't compete with those mentioned. Doesn't require as much finesse. They are athletic as hell though when it comes to speed, agility, power etc.

There's only one A-level athlete

6'2, 265 lbs of rage

Too bad he couldn't play for shit

Lol, american football players are just roided up freaks, they severely lack the innate talent, spatial intelligence and hand/foot eye coordination of true A-level athletes like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lomachenko, Roger Federer etc

Exactly.

There is a reason only American's watch Fatball.

A level athlete:

- American
- Black
- Joe Rogan must have masturbated at least once to
- Explosive
- Play NFL/NBA

They also follow what their family or social network / community stress. Floyd is a boxer because he was born into a boxing family. There are wrestling families. Etc. it’s not simply follow the $$.

American football IS easier to transition into than soccer. It requires less technical skill overall. It doesn’t diminish nfl players but it’s simply less of a technical sport (at least at some positions).

Here here, five second burst don't make an a-level athlete

It’s possible to transition to running back or receiver.

Manute Bol is A-level? He's not American, but he stole an American A-level athlete's job.
Sorry that is actually impossible. Haven't you spoken to the yanks on here?! They genuinely believe that they're the only athletes in the world and American Football is the greatest sport on Earth. They actually deep down 100% believe it.
