Bobby Lashley calling out Brock Lesnar

and Matt Serra btw. Just to be clear I dont chase fighters/wrestlers to the bathroom
Pre or post UFC career?

Also, did Flair make eyecontact and do a 'Woo!" as he left the stall?

Important details.

Serra was champ at the time the night I saw him he was cornering one of his guys at an all BJJ event in a casino in Atlantic City

No Flair and I didnt interact.

<21>this could/would be Vince’s wet dream

They did that because they wouldn’t be able to have shows in NYC due to being a “combat sport”. So they “came out” as sports entertainment as a loophole.

Also, tax purposes. Several states, including NJ, called them out out on not being a legit sport and that they should be paying the entertainment tax rate instead of the fight promotion tax rate or they could take the product elsewhere. They opted to break kayfabe at a press conference with Christine Todd Whitman and The Undertaker (in full character) at The Meadowlands.

99% sure this was started because Dan Severn had just signed and this was created to put him over. Bruce Prichard did a great podcast on brawl for all a few months back

By most accounts, Vinnie Ru came up with the idea after getting fed up with Bradshaw bitching that, "If this was a bar fight federation, I'd be champ for lahfe!" He came up with it and, despite reservations about the clusterfuck it could cause, they did it because 1) they were looking for something new and 2) Jim Ross was part of the office back then and saw it as a way to get Dr Death over because he was figured to be a clear favorite by JR. Cornette does the best rants about the B4A. Give them a listen.

I took a piss next to Chuck Wepner after a Gatti fight in A.C. once.

Lashley has called him out recently. Also says he will be returning to WWE.

If Lesnar and Lashley agreed to fight COULD WWE hold their own actual fight on one of their big PPV's?

I dont know how they could sanction it or if they could?

Vince doesn’t do shoot fights. He learnt that lesson. Lesnar shoot fighting Lashley is stupid on many levels for WWE.

Also PPV is dead for the WWE.

States didn’t ‘call’ Vince out. He deliberately broke kayfabe to avoid dealing with ACs and bearing the financial burden for it including fees and taxes.

Fair enough. State athletic commissions, then.

I think they were trying to push someone else, but Gunn ended up getting to the end. Vince was mad and made that Butterbean fight to humiliate him since most of those fans thought he got beat up by a fat guy. At least that's what I remember seeing from some Youtube shows that I throw on when I'm drunk.

But to get back to your point. They probably could get it sanctioned for them to do an MMA match. They both have MMA records and everything. The testing could come into play, but I'm sure there are ways around it. It's not like they are trying to start a legit MMA company.
A lot of ACs require a minimum number of fights on a card. And I'm sure there are some that don't want to possibly confuse people by having real matches in the same event as a predetermined wrestling match.

The Brawl for All was a concept promoted by Jim Ross and invented by Vince Russo in order to hotshot a top contender for Steve Austin during a talent shortage and creative high for the company. Dr. Death was an 80's guy that had no business in the 98 Attitude Era that snagged a job solely due to his being a favorite of EVP of Talent Relations Jim Ross. Even the weird random rules (no grappling but takedowns are allowed giving you judges points) were catered to William's abilities to make him look like a world title threat.

Although future stars Bradshaw (in the APA and as JBL) and The Godfather appeared there was little doubt as to the point of this tournament. Ross gushed backstage about Death and most knew their role. Enter the problem, Bart Gunn.

Bart was part of the 1995 drought (that had Austin play a mute named the Ringmaster) and only had a job due to a talent exodus. His kayfabe brother (Billy who still uses the Gunn name) teamed up as rootin' tootin' cowpokes the Smokin' Guns in 1995 to complete disinterest. Billy had gone through three major reinventions (once as 50's Elvis knockoff named Rockabilly) finally becoming a star with the New Age Outlaws. Hearing the gushing of Ross (who obviously cared nothing for Bart) after walking in the door Gunn was incensed, he had a puncher's chance and he took it. When he got a big strike you can hear Ross' voice audibly crack, as he destroyed his friend's entire persona.

From there the company sought to destroy Gunn. Fighting a legit heavyweight boxer who was world class was the ultimate burial. Gunn was off tv for six months simply to starve the man into agreeing (the contracts could be for under a thousand dollars a year guaranteed in those days) for a Mania payday (a huge 5 figures for even lower level guys). Even with months of work he could never close the skill gap. It would be like Conor actually fighting Floyd (the skills gap between the two was actually wider).

Lesnar and Lashley will wrestle in WWE. Hope after his WWE stint, Lesnar can go to MMA...

If he's clean.

I really don't think Lesnar has anything left for MMA...just doesn't seem like he can take a clean shot anymore. Look at the alleged "knee" he took from Braun he got all upset about....No part of Braun's "knee" ever touched Lesnar's skull, it was full on quad. Just boggles my mind that Mark Hunt did not press Brock at all.....You could tell Lesnar was tentative as Hell with Mark standing in front of him, and Mark just stood there the majority of the time, hardly throwing anything.

At this point, if Brock went to MMA, Bellator is his best bet. He can keep his reputation in check, taking on 40 year olds with no chins left. Could you seriously see him taking on Stipe or Ngannaou at this point in the UFC?

Also Brawl for All related: Bradshaw was told to make sure Bart beat him by KO. WWF wanted Gunn humiliated on the grandest stage of them all.

Yeah then they had Bart Gun fight Butter Bean at Wrestlemania, which was a terrible idea.

Fight starts at 5:40

They did that to embarrass Bart Gunn, allegedly. JR had been going on for weeks in the back about how Steve Williams was going to be the winner of the Brawl For All and all the talent got sick of hearing it. After Gunn knock out Dr Death, the locker room supposedly popped big.

According to Butterbean himself, he was Gunn's punishment / reward for winning the tournament.

Like they told Butterbean that... like you could believe the carnies anyway...

After Bart won the tournament, WWF didn't mind making a star out of him if they could and they literally financed his training so that he could be prepared to face someone with a reputation like Butterbean.

Anyway, the XFL sounded plausible as well.

No. Not how it went down.
This is according to Bob Holly's book. The rumors were Godfather and Bradshaw were told to take dives. It's by no means a solid fact like WrestleMania 3's attendance or Andre the Giant's height, but you have to ask yourself...

Is this something the office would do because wrestling is some petty shit? Yes.
Would those guys do it because they were company boys? 100% yes.
Do they get anything out of this? Yes, new gimmicks. A pimp and a team with Ron Simmons(hope those work out), while Bart gets to be thrown off TV by Dr.Death in order to "train" for six months.

So while not admitted to, it at least has to be put out there. WWF may not have immediately known how they were going to humiliate Bart Gunn, but that was always the endgame. Wrestling is carny as fuuuuck.
