I am aware of that , but the Chinese buying these expensive 'remedies' are affluent. So considering they are affluent, you woud expect them to be logical.

Advancement of society economically and technologically raises quality of life, education and communication with the world. You would expect people to become more educated and be more aware of scientific norms with their quality of life ascendancy. As greater % of Chinese expereince affluence , education and communication with the outside world, I would assume their outlook on life changes too. Just as the advance in technology, media and education has seen more people in the West discard religious dogma and go with science.

I am just surprised that China can have cities that emulate Japan to a large degree , large scale manufacturing and research but still have affluent people hold onto such idiotic beliefs. I associate such beliefs to uneducated or religious persons. Chinese aren't particularly religious, and the persons buying these 'cures' are affluent , so wouldn't necessarily be ignorant country bumbkins either.

Why is it classic? You can kill an animal in a way that minimizes-or eliminates-suffering.

We’ve got problems in the West with how we raise animals in industrial agriculture, but it’s a far cry from what you find in China. As others have said, nations that don’t value human rights or individual freedoms also treat animals poorly. No surprise there. Japan kills thousands of whales and dolphins each year, while we club defenceless seals in Canada, both leading first world countries with unnecessary babaric practices.

Crush cages and shark finning are the two animal things that get me really mad. They just seem pointless, lazy, and cruel.

I get irked and sad when hearing/seeing about cruelty committed against mammals but feel less sensitive the farther away from mammals these cases get.

I don't feel sympathize with sharks for example, under any condition.

imo seals/otters/walruses get dealt with a shitty hand from nature.

They're adorable, almost dog-like animals that get preyed upon by the scariest predators on earth (polar bears, killer whales, sharks).

Their cities don't emulate Japan, Chinese cities are dirty, polluted and massively over crowded. The people buying the donkey skin stuff aren affluent, it's not very expensive and you can make it at home very cheaply.

They have the large scale manufacturing because people work for very little pay, the poverty in china is staggering, even more so when half the country lives on less than 20 dollars a week.
