CNN - What's the "Alt Left"? Experts say it's 'made-up term'

Isn't every term "made up", as in they are all just created out of thin air? People make up terms all the time. What is the Alt Right? What is Antifa? Just terms someone came up with, "made up" if you will.

If the term alt-left refers to something real, how isn't it a legitimate term?

Alt-Right was a self identifier used by the alt-right themselves.

Alt-Left is a slander term cooked up by the Alt-Right to deflect from the left using their self identified term against them.

That's what it boils down to.

What I mean is putting it back into a 1900 context and comparing it to other countries around the time of 1900.
The Kaiserreich was one of the most open and prosperous societies.
What we consider today as normal was born under the "Bismark policies".
For example, social benefits, health insurance, workers rights free education, abolishing of the "Staende" system in Europe.

Those were all brought to the world by the Prussians, not because in the interest of the worker or working class but because it would be beneficial to the Fatherland itself.
The Alt Right just doesn't understand that in 2017 those principles do not just apply to white people but everyone willing to live by them.
But at the core that's what they want.

The alt-right isn't defined by Bismarckian policy though. There's one thing they all agree on, and it isn't the welfare state.

For a group of people who think CNN is fake news, you guys sure do follow and quote it frequently.

Anywho, the violence from the alt right far outweighs anything the lefties have fone, and that's fact.

Yes, sort of difficult to put into a 2017 context. But the Kaiserreich wasn't about a welfare state. Or redistribution of wealth.
The main concept was not taking money from the rich and giving it to the poor.
But rather what can we do in order to set up our economy so it will benefit the Fatherland as a whole,
rather than the US system where the individual is the most important factor in economic policies.

The term is not new, it's been used by liberals to distance themselves from the violent fringe that's out on the streets starting fires and throwing their own piss at people.

Case in point:

The modern right-wing movement in America is people who primarily care about upward redistribution of wealth taking advantage of CTers and white nationalists to get support. It doesn't work if they understand liberal to mean "someone who cares about rule of law, democratic gov't, limited gov't (in the sense of protecting rights such as free speech and a free press), empirically guided policy ideas, maximizing liberty, etc." So the right-wing media is forced to grossly distort what liberalism actually is.

There are illiberal elements on both the right and the left in America (though obviously Obama and Clinton are liberals and not in any way "alt left"). The difference is that illiberals on the left are marginalized--people who are forced to protest or disrupt stuff on college campuses; while illiberals on the right have taken over the GOP and the right-wing media.

Trump used the term because he didn't want to give these fringe idiots publicity by naming their organizations directly.

The real heart of the problem is that hardcore conservatives have been beating up liberals, hippies, pacifists, punks, minorities, flag burners and LGBT people for DECADES now. They are upset that the people they have been calling limp wristed, sissies, p***ies, and a variety of homophobic slurs are willing to fight back. Violence doesn't fix problems but Emperor Trump encouraging the violence was the final straw for these "antifa" people that pushed them to fight.

Brave people pepper spraying an 8 year old girl in the face (because she is a Trump Supporter)

I haven't seen violence like this from the other side.

So he should have said antifa instead of alt left

And this is just patently false...

I don't know how you can say this and keep a straight face...

What we saw in this recent election cycle, and what we see now on campuses whenever a conservative attempts to speak...

The violence on the left far outweighs that on the right

Did any of the stuff you're talking about happen in Charlottesville?

Bismarck originated the welfare state in defence of landed aristocracy, but my point was that the Alt-right isn't united on economic policies or even a general concept of nationalism, but the specifics of white nationalism.

Good people on all sides should be distancing themselves from the violent fringe.

Did any of the stuff you're talking about happen in Charlottesville?

So I reply to a guy that says "hardcore conservatives have been beating up liberals, hippies, pacifists, punks, minorities, flag burners and LGBT people for DECADES now."

And this is your response?

Very Sad Sadmick...even for you

Who on the left is the Dylan Roof equivalent?

No one was killed by Antifa.

What about all the leftists that have been killing cops for a year now? And all the black people killing white people for being white that have been posted in the War Room over the year? What about that guy that shot up all those people at the GOP baseball event?
