CONAN THE BARBARIAN TV Series in the Works at Amazon

For some reason, i thought i had seen these movies. Looking At these gifs and that video, i guess i didn't.

Gonna have to watch em now.

Did he ever have to crawl through a narrow cave only to find a way out at the end of it, and end up on a side of a mountain/cliff?

That's kind of like how he acquired his sword from the dead soldier after running away from the wolves in the first movie.

I've only ever seen 1 thing from Amazon - The Man in the High Castle (which is really good and you should watch it), and the prodiction quality is very high.

If Conan can get the same quality it will be promising.

You should give Bosch a try then. (thriller, action, cop show)

I'm also hearing good things about comedies like: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Tick and Red Oaks.

@Dragonlordxxxxx can confirmed some of this I'm sure.

Wonder how much this is gonna be updated for the current generation. Howards depiction of a muscle bound Conan treading through a world of half dressed giant breasted women in scanty clothing probably isnt gonna work as a direct adaptation.
I dunno, Altered Carbon seems to prove you can have a muscle bound Kovacs treading through a world of half dressed medium breasted women in scanty clothing.

If we aren't going to get King Conan I guess this is the next best thing. Hopefully LOTR doesn't suck up all Amazon's sword'n'sandals budget...

First time I saw this, I didn't take in the sheer size of the skeleton. He must have been a giant; the sword looks like a dagger next to it.

To be fair, she does look intimidating. I'd not want to see her in a dream.

You are thinking of Beastmaster! Did he have ferrets?

This could work very well.

I've always been of the opinion that the original Howard stories and the Hyborian Age setting let themselves better to a TV series format of storytelling rather than to movies. A TV series would give more time to explore the fact that OG Conan was a cunning tactician, an observant guy and a hell of a lot more articulate than people used to the Schwarzenegger version would believe possible. And he wore armor and pants as often as not.

I had always assumed that the people holding the rights would never give up on trying to make it a film franchise, so the closest I expected to get was a Red Sonja show, but it seems that the age of Netflix and Amazon has changed that.

But please, no more burning his village and killing his parents. Howard's Conan doesn't need a life-long revenge quest for motivation, he just enjoys the lifestyle.

As I said, there was more to Howard's Conan than muscles. And if Game of Thrones has proved anything it is that you can have as many giant breasted women in scanty clothing as you wish as long as the show is good enough.

Hopefully LOTR doesn't suck up all Amazon's sword'n'sandals budget...

That's the nice thing about Sword & Sorcery, you can do it right on a significantly smaller budget than High Fantasy.

oh my god if they social justice Conan with a bunch of homos and weirdos in there im gonna burn the entire place to the ground, scorched earth

I think the scene i'm thinking about was in Red Sonja

@Mungoose

Also a great movie (by my standards, heh)! Red Sonja had a crossover movie with Conan. Or maybe they were always from the same story world, I can't remember. Definitely had a movie together though. My loins ached for that bad red bitch. Conan, Red Sonja, Beastmaster... I've got some nostalgia to roll around in. Might have to bust out the VHS player.

I hope is more faithful to the original material than the movies. Robert E. Howard was an excellent writer, this passage from him is just amazing:
“I have known many gods. He who denies them is as blind as he who trusts them too deeply. I seek not beyond death. It may be the blackness averred by the Nemedian skeptics, or Crom's realm of ice and cloud, or the snowy plains and vaulted halls of the Nordheimer's Valhalla. I know not, nor do I care. Let me live deep while I live; let me know the rich juices of red meat and stinging wine on my palate, the hot embrace of white arms, the mad exultation of battle when the blue blades flame and crimson, and I am content. Let teachers and philosophers brood over questions of reality and illusion. I know this: if life is illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and am content.”

Have your torch at the ready.

@Dragonlordxxxxx we cannot have blasphomy such as this in our forums, especially the last part about not having big breasted women scantily clothed. :D

I'm down. A lot they could do with this and Amazon has had some successful adaptions, Man in the High Castle and Bosch.
