EA Earns Most Downvoted Comment In Reddit History

So, we’re reducing the amount of credits needed to unlock the top heroes by 75%. Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader will now be available for 15,000 credits; Emperor Palpatine, Chewbacca, and Leia Organa for 10,000 credits; and Iden at 5,000 credits. Based on what we’ve seen in the trial, this amount will make earning these heroes an achievement, but one that will be accessible for all players.

So they basically reduced it back down to beta levels. Still a complete joke. They make a star wars game where the two most iconic characters(Luke and Vader) are locked and each require 10 hours of grinding gameplay to unlock. Also, I like how they made the dev team break the news as if it's their decision.

I hope heads roll at EA for this. The last EA games I've bought were this, battlefield 4 and Madden 2005(serious). Me and 5 of my buddies have cancelled our preorders.

That's all well and good, but have these people who hate EA so much, stopped buying their products? No? Then I don't care about their whining, and neither does EA.

This is a sequel to a game you Star Wars fanboys already bitched about, and what do you do? You go out and buy the fuckin' thing. Why? 'Cause it's "Star Wars", and you'll buy any piece of shit with it's logo on it. You're paying $80 for a glorified mod for Battlefield, and you wonder why EA thinks so little of you.

The only EA game I have bought since Dead Space 3 introduced the micro transactions in 13, was Battlefield 1, which was gifted to me anyway.

EA can fuck themselves. It's quite clear everything they made is tainted with a cynical nature that pushes profit before the actual game. The Orwellian language they use to describe their avarice is nauseating.

10 hours?? Before this update wasn't the unlock of Luke and Vader taking 40 hours?

Yeah now it's about 10 hours. Went from 60k in game credits to 15k.

I'm honestly surprised they even did anything. I think all gamers should rejoice a little bit. Fuck EA still though

not trying to take EA's side and I am not because I haven't bought an EA game in years (I think) but 40 hours originally is a far cry from hundreds to unlock those characters.

And 40 hours of gameplay isn't that long. Are we talking about skills involved here too or just 40 hours of playing the game? If so that's easy as shit. An average gamer should be able to unlock it in week (especially if he's got a free weekend to play it). 10 hours? That's 2-3 nights of solid gameplay after work.

How is that different from locking away a few special levels until you finish certain parts of the game? just wondering...

40 hours for one character plus you cant spend any on lot crates which give you stat boosts some being pretty significant.

The average gamer plays 40 hours a week?!?

And we're talking 40 hours to unlock a single Hero. Then you have to unlock the 17(?) cards for each Hero. The estimated hours to unlock all the current content, in a game you already paid $60 for, is ~5000 hours.

Purposefully designing a progression system to be tedious and/or frustrating in order to force players to pay for progression is the most deceitful and despicable business model in gaming today, and EA is at the center of it.

edit - It's actually ~5000 hours to unlock all content without buying lootboxes.

Nah it's not that simple. Add up unlocking all of the locked characters, unlocking all of the cards, unlocking all of the crafting points to level up the cards, leveling up each class AND hero, then you've easily got hundreds of hours required. Not to mention you have to manually open and craft as well as watch the animations every single time. Even after they reduced the hero cost by 75% it's still easily 100+ hours.

The issue I personally have as a gamer is that only a fraction, if any, of this is intended to please the majority of gamers. It's almost all purely to prey on the 10% of gamers who spend that $100+ on microtransactions.

I wanted to give this game a try because there are some really good things about the gameplay mechanics and the actual uses of the cards from loot boxes(similar to LoL runes/masteries), but the added dimension of needing well over 100 hours in order to experience the full game(after already paying $60) is a complete deal breaker.

5000 seems high, but the more I think about it my guesstimate of a few hundred seems low. There is A LOT of shit to unlock in order to max out the power of each vehicle, soldier class, and hero. I only managed to get the assault class to level 10 in 6 hours of gameplay.

Sadly, that funny gif makes no sense. EA is quite in tune with the mindless zombies that make up today's gamer. All EA cares about is their bottom line. It's not just EA either. Everyone is doing this pay to play/win model, because it works.

DLC is one thing, but you know what really blows my mind? That gaming companies have actually convinced people to spend real money on fake money. That shit takes the cake. I regularly play this poker game on my phone. Everyday I log in, I get smashed in the face with ads to sell me chips. Now keep in mind that this game(I think it's Pokerstars) gives away free chips every four hours, in case you're tapped out. If you seriously can't wait four stinking hours, for free fake chips, to play a poker game that costs you no money to play, and has no limitations or cap on how much fake money you can make, there is something wrong with you.

"Hey, they're giving away $30,000,000 in fake money, for a mere $20 of real money. Damn, that's a pretty good deal."

There are people....MANY people, who actually think that. Some say Mike Judge hit the nail on the head with that flick "Idiocracy". In some respects, I think he was being a little too optimistic.

I used to be a senior engineer for one of the most successful f2p casino games on iOS. Would it surprise you if I said some users spent over 6 figures on in-app purchases?

LOL.

I bet that's something Jaden Smith does.

I'm gonna take my chances. Already preordered. This is the first EA game I've ever purchased so it's not like I've given them a lot of money anyway.

Every time dice and EA make a statement about the game

Before I say what I am going to say I want to put out there that single player RMT infuriates me. Having said that:

Either you have a very narrow view of the situation or you've never earned enough money to have expendable income.

Let me help you to understand. I have a wife and three kids but I have plenty of friends who are still single and enjoying the bachelor life. I focused on my career and family for the most part so I have a lot of expendable income. Sometimes they get to game a lot. They game all week and get way ahead of me. The weekend comes and I drop a pittance (let's say what amounts to 20 minutes of my hourly wages) and all that time I didn't get to play all week I am now caught up and get to play with my friends on the weekend.

Who wins? We all win. They got to enjoy the game all week. I got to catch up and game with them on the weekend. Sometimes I support a developer... sometimes I RMT around the system which to me is unfortunate but they probably need the money anyway if they are selling in game currency.

The only time this is a problem is when the game is actually competitive or the company abuses the system to make it feel like you need to RMT to compete. (Hi Activision)
