Friend is addicted to gore videos

Post the pics has he sent you. We need to see what you talking about. Cause it might be not be as bad as you think. Let us be the judge.
You should post in the OT.

He willingly goes to gore sites to watch some over the top brutality, full blown guts all over the place stuff, and this got me worried.

I noticed he started watching this kind stuff years ago, but recently he's texting me and other friends this kind of shit and I tell him every single time that this is not ok and that he should stop this.

On the surface he looks absolutely normal, with a job and a girlfried, but this addiction of his is seriously disgusting me to the point I'm questioning if I can be friends with someone so tasteless.
He might be fantasizing about murdering people, or maybe just suicide.

Does he own firearms?

Used to watch Mexican cartel beheadings and ISIS shit...

I realized that I have enough distress and anxiety I don’t need to add to it .

Some people truly like seeing people die.. shock and disgust also.

I knew a guy who had no problem seeing someone get cut open but when it came to animals he couldn’t even watch a cat get hit.

Sounds a little like the early stages of "it's put the lotion on the skin" type of stuff.

Meh. I watch it out of 1) morbid curiosity and 2) it exists in the world and pretending like it doesn't seems more audacious to me for some reason.

That doesn't mean I want to incline the behavior or anything, but horrendous videos / photos of war (or criminal punishment) exist because those things exist.

Getting some gross joy out of it though would be very concerning.
That's an odd way to think of it.
Gay sex exists too...me not wanting to watch it doesn't mean I"m pretending it doesn't exist.

I understand morbid curiousity, to a point--but when someone is routinely searching out gory shit, that's really weird. It's one thing if you heard about some crazy thing that happened and you checked it out, it's another to actually routinely search for it.

TS, i think you have to Old Yeller the friend, before he puts you in a video.

I regret my curiosity getting the best of me once. I swore off that stuff ever since

i mean Liveleak and BestGore exist for a reason, just saying

pretty crazy that it's readily available, in our day we had to go Faces of Death or more likely just 'hear about' Faces of Death like some mystical Necromenon or some ish

certain people have become desensitized to death too, like i imagine many EMTs, or medical professionals, or soldiers/military/LEO, etc...

plus there's levels to gore, like a kid being murdered or something truly absurd or like a bad car accident compared to say a bullfighter getting gored to death by a bull? a lot more people would be willing to watch the latter compared to the former

100% levels to gore.

Watch People Die reddit was fun until I wateched a woman slowly burn to death. Every time she tried putting it out, they'd beat her until she stopped resisting. After a few moments of burning, and the fire reaches a new part of skin, she would shake claw the dirt and moan... But the nerves would die and she would go numb again for a few seconds.

That shit stuck with me. I can watch beheadings, pink mist headshots, car accidents... But that slow death was terrible.

there's also a pretty big difference to seeing it IRL versus a screen too (aka Porn versus a real life naked chick, talking just looking)

like I saw an Afghan kid get pink misted by a mortar, his fault as he walked into the blast area to collect shrapnel after it was launched already, but man. Can't unsee shit like that when you personally witness it. Shit happens tho

Death is as much a part of life as life itself.

It's either that or Mom/Son, Daddy/Daughter incest porn.

I've watched pretty much all the worst shit. I think if you get sucked in and binge that stuff you can go to a really dark place mentally which isn't good for you. Specially if you have a nihilistic outlook on life or are depressed.

On the flip side, I truly believe that knowing and seeing the worst of what man is capable of, and understand how/why it happens, enables you to be the best person you can be. I liken it similar to how vegans are against animal cruelty after seeing disturbing animal videos. I already saw enough gore in real life too working as a first responder / fire fighter for a couple years. I now focus almost all of my energy in life on positive things.

So my advice is know what the darkness is, then chase the light.

Doesn't justify watching people agonize slow deaths.
What's ironic is your country produces the majority of these videos. Between you and Mexico, it's hard to tell who's life is valued less.

Yeah man, that sucks. Strength of personality and a good support network is what you need for that.

Nice, the country card.
