Bryan Cranston NOT Confirmed as Lex Luthor in MAN OF STEEL 2

Bryan-Cranston-Lex-Luthor-006-Dragonlord.jpg

A number of sites have been racing to put up a headline stating unequivocally that Bryan Cranston has been confirmed to play Lex Luthor in Man of Steel 2. All of this is based on an unsourced report coming from the notoriously unreliable Cosmicbooknews, claiming to confirm an earlier rumor that had Cranston and Mark Strong as the top contenders. While some of the details make sense, there are others that sound as if they were cooked up to try and make the story sound legit.

Cosmic Book News reported that Cranston locked up for a six-picture deal as Lex Luthor and that Warner Bros. wants to wait until after the Breaking Bad series finale to make the announcement. This would leave the door open for Strong to reprise his role as Green Lantern villain Sinestro. The site also says that Affleck was signed to a whopping 13-picture deal and that 25-year-old Teen Wolf star Tyler Hoechlin was given heavy consideration for Batman. In the final ridiculous twist in an already shaky report, it says WB is seeking Matt Damon to join the Justice League as either Aquaman or Martian Manhunter.

Like all stories of this nature, there are kernels of possibility in there, just enough to make it worth paying attention to but not enough to take seriously. Cranston could certainly end up as Lex Luthor; he has a relationship with the studio, appearing in Affleck's Argo and starring in Godzilla. Plus he's one of the most sought-after character actors around and can obviously play a villain if called upon. It's just not true... yet, and the rest of the story sounds like complete bullshit.

First Trailer for DIVERGENT Starring Shailene Woodley

Divergent-Teaser-Shailene-Woodley-0825-Dragonlord.jpg

Following the brief teaser released a few days ago, Summit Entertainment has debuted the first trailer for director Neil Burger’s (Limitless) adaptation of the Veronica Roth novel Divergent at the MTV Video Music Awards tonight. Set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities, Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.

The first trailer for Divergent expands upon the brief teaser's glimpse of action and gives us a better, in-depth look at Woodley, packed with action, suspense, and romance (of course). The film also stars Theo James, Miles Teller, Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney, Ashley Judd, Tony Goldwyn, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, Ansel Elgort, Christian Madsen, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Ben Lamb, and Amy Newbold. Divergent opens on March 21, 2014.

If the Youtube video is taken down, go to MTV to see the trailer.

First Green Band Trailer for FILTH Starring James McAvoy

Filth-James-McAvoy-The-Fingers-Dragonlord.jpg

After two NSFW red-band trailers for Filth, I can finally post a preview of the film here in Movie News & Notes as Lionsgate has released the first "family-friendly" trailer for the Jon S. Baird-directed film. Adapted from Irvine Welsh’s popular crime novel, the film stars James McAvoy as a crooked and devious police officer who goes on cocaine binges and has rampant sex ventures as part of his annual vacation to Amsterdam. In other words, it's the unofficial British adaptation of Bad Lieutenant. The film also stars Jamie Bell, Imogen Poots, and Jim Broadbent. Filth opens in the UK on October 27th.

Synopsis: Scheming Bruce Robertson (James McAvoy), a bigoted and corrupt policeman, is in line for a promotion and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Enlisted to solve a brutal murder and threatened by the aspirations of his colleagues, including Ray Lennox (Jamie Bell), Bruce sets about ensuring their ruin, right under the nose of unwitting Chief Inspector Toal. As he turns his colleagues against one another by stealing their wives and exposing their secrets, Bruce starts to lose himself in a web of deceit that he can no longer control. His past is slowly catching up with him, and a missing wife, a crippling drug habit and suspicious colleagues start to take their toll on his sanity. The question is: can he keep his grip on reality long enough to disentangle himself from the filth?

TRANSFORMERS 4 Call Sheet Confirms Dinobots, Cyclonus and More

Transformers-Optimus-Grimlock-Dragonlord.jpg

Reddit user Marcodelau has posted a leaked Transformers 4 call sheet that is filled with lots of goodies. Let's start with the Transformers that are confirmed based on this sheet: New Optimus, Bumblebee, Hound, Lambo, Pagani, Crosshairs, Drift, and Cyclonus. Fans did assume that Drift was in the mix, but Crosshairs and Cyclonus are surprising additions. Crosshairs is known as the Autobot weapons supervisor, and Cyclonus is Decepticon. He was created by Unicron, and is a genuinely loyal and competent second-in-command to Galvatron.

As for the human characters: Mark Wahlberg is Cade, Stanley Tucci is Joshua, Kelsey Grammer is Attinger, Nicola Peltz is Tessa, Jack Reynor is Shane, Sophia Myles is Darcy, Li Bingbing is Su Yueming, TJ Miller is Lucas, James Bachman is Gill Wembley and Titus Welliver is Savoy.

Most importantly, the call sheet confirms the Dinobots. These scene are actually part of the "1st Dinobot Attack," as titled by the sheet. No names or descriptions of the Dinobots are given. Their group is traditionally made up of Grimlock (T-Rex), Slag (Triceratops), Sludge (Apatosaurus), Snarl (Stegosaurus) and Swoop (Pteranodon). On the 80's animated series, they were created by Wheeljack, to add some muscle to the Autobots. Their lack of intelligence, and their incredible strength make a dangerous mix. Initially Optimus wants them shutdown, but a Decepticon attack, allows them to show off their usefulness.

Matt Damon, Paul Greengrass Returning for New BOURNE Movie?

Matt-Damon-Paul-Greengrass-Dragonlord.jpg

Twitch is reporting that Universal is currently in negotiations with Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum) to both return to the Bourne franchise, which would be a really significant development for the series. Universal attempted to get Damon and Greengrass back after The Bourne Ultimatum, but the two couldn’t figure out a worthwhile story and Universal didn’t want to wait, so the studio moved forward with the subpar The Bourne Legacy. Damon has repeatedly said that he will only return for another Bourne film if Greengrass is directing, but that prospect seemed unlikely as Greengrass had a pretty heated falling out with Universal.

Greengrass has a pretty full plate at the moment, and he recently entered talks to direct the Aaron Sorkin-scripted political drama The Trial of the Chicago 7 as his next film. He’s also got his MLK film Memphis in the works, so it’s unclear where another Bourne movie would fit into his schedule. His most recent directorial effort, Captain Phillips, opens in theaters on October 11th.

[Sources from Universal are now telling Variety that there is "no truth" to the rumor that Damon and Greengrass are in negotiations to return. Not exactly an official denial, so something could very well be up.]

42 Star Chadwick Boseman to Play James Brown in Biopic

Chadwick-Boseman-0826-Dragonlord.jpg

Last fall, it was learned that The Help director Tate Taylor would direct a biopic about The Godfather of Soul, singer James Brown, with the help of producers Brian Grazer and Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. Now the film has a leading man as THR reports 42 star Chadwick Boseman will play Brown in the film tha. Grazer has been trying to get made at Imagine Entertainment for over 10 years. Stars like Eddie Murphy, famous for his James Brown impersonation on "Saturday Night Live" back in the day, and directors like Spike Lee have circled the project, but it sounds like this time the film will move forward.

Jez and John-Henry Butterworth wrote the script, which follows the young James Brown as he rose out of poverty and avoided a path of violence during his rise to prominence, leading him to become one of the most legendary and influential musicians of all time. Brown was involved with the film up until his passing in 2006, so it should be a fairly accurate portrayal of his life. There's a good chance some other iconic names in music will need to be cast as well, but probably not on the scale of something like The Butler with stars making cameos left and right.

Warner Bros. Developing SCOOBY-DOO Animated Feature

2f05f5t.jpg

The live-action/CG hybrid Scooby-Doo made $276 million worldwide for Warner Bros. back in 2002. The sequel, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, grossed $181 million in 2004. As much as critics dumped on the colorful mess, that is enough money that you knew the studio would return to the well before a decade passed. To their credit, WB is taking the franchise in a different direction. Variety reports the studio is developing an animated Scooby-Doo feature film.

It is not specified in the report, but it's assumed it will be a computer-animated feature. Charles Roven and Richard Suckle, who produced the 2002 entry, return to produce the reboot. Matt Lieberman will write the script. The new film, like the others, is based on Hanna-Barbera's animated TV series Scooby-Doo: Where Are You?, which debuted in 1969. The series followed a group of friends and their dog as they traveled in a van -- The Mystery Machine -- solving strange, and often goofy, mysteries.

Todd McFarlane Says SPAWN Reboot Could Shoot Next Year

Todd-McFarlane-Talks-Spawn-0826-Dragonlord.jpg

Todd McFarlane: “The thing that keeps slowing it down is that the negotiation I’ve done is I write, produce, direct, but I’ve got to push a lot of my other endeavors off to the side so I can just get tunnel vision on it. Everybody at my company is now going, ‘We’ve got to find Todd the time to finish all this.’”

“I think it’s a quick shoot. It’s not going to be a giant budget with a lot of special effects, it’s going to be more of a horror movie and a thriller movie, not a superhero one. I’ve got so many people phoning now that I’ve got to get it done. I’ve made some promises to people this year. [The producers] want me to deliver the script by the end of the year, which would basically mean we’d be shooting next year. So, that’s the goal right now.”

“We’ve had some big names […] come into the office and go, ‘We want to be in it.’ Sometimes they give me their pitch, I give them my pitch, I go, ‘We can get in it, this is how it goes,’ and so those types of actors–Academy Award guys–they’re going, ‘As soon as that scripts done, we’re going.’ So once we get this thing done, we’ll get it off the ground with some big names.”

:icon_twis

Anyways wasn't James Brown like 5 foot 6 ? Boseman is a pretty stout guy , yeah he will probably slim down all that and he is a good actor but seems like an odd choice for Brown. More Jim Brown than James Brown if you ask me.
