Rumor: Plot Details for AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Finally Revealed?

According to LMR, sources have told the site several alleged plot points of Avengers: Infinity War

Unlike the other major Marvel Comics crossover arcs that have had their exact names stolen for the big screen (Age of Ultron and Civil War, for example), Avengers: Infinity War is going to start with the exact premise of the "Infinity Gauntlet" comic book crossover series as opposed to the actual "Infinity War" storyline.

For the non-geeks: "Infinity Gauntlet" is the crossover where Thanos obtains and wields the Infinity Gauntlet with all the Infinity Gems. "Infinity War" is Adam Warlock fighting Magus, and those characters don't look like they are part of the equation this time out.

Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War will feature the Mad Titan Thanos trying to impress the personification of Death (who will be a woman). Thanos assembles all six Infinity Stones and utilizes the Gauntlet to have god-like powers. His grand plan is that Death will also feel love for him if he brings her enough "souls," so he decides to extinguish half the life in the universe to impress her.

Death - the personification of death - is going to be in Avengers: Infinity War. Previous fan rumors have noticed that Cate Blanchett's Hela could substitute for the Death character in the comics. The site can only confirm that Death is in the movie and is female.

So far, on the hero side, we already know the Avengers will show up, as will the Guardians of the Galaxy team. The site is reporting that Nick Fury will also be making his grand return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Kate Beckinsale to Star in Marc Webb's THE ONLY LIVING BOY IN NEW YORK

Kate Beckinsale has closed a deal to join the cast of The Only Living Boy in New York, the drama Marc Webb is directing for Amazon Studios.

The feature is casting up ahead of its early October start and already sees Callum Turner, Kiersey Clemons and Jeff Bridges on the call sheet.

Written by Allan Loeb, Only Living Boy centers on a recent college graduate (Turner) who begins a relationship with his father's mistress after finding out about their affair.

Beckinsale will play the mistress, who finds the son charming and has no intention of leaving the family’s life.

Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa are producing the feature, which will begin shooting in early October.

The actress was recently seen in Love & Friendship, Whit Stillman’s adaptation of the Jane Austen story Lady Susan, and reprises her role of action heroine Selene in Underworld: Blood Wars, the next installment in the film franchise, set for release in January.

Curtis Hanson, Director of L.A. CONFIDENTIAL and 8 MILE, Dies at 71

Curtis Hanson, whose sterling adaptation of the noir classic L.A. Confidential earned him an Oscar and vaulted him to A-list status as a screenwriter and director, has died. He was 71.

Hanson, who also helmed such box-office hits as the Rebecca De Mornay horror thriller The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (1992) and the Eminem hip-hop drama 8 Mile (2002), died Tuesday afternoon in a home in the Hollywood Hills, according to the LAPD. Paramedics had been called to the scene and found him dead.

He most recently directed the 2012 surfing movie Chasing Mavericks but left the production because of an undisclosed illness. Michael Apted completed the picture, and Hanson never directed a film again.

Eminem, star of 8 Mile, said in a statement, "Curtis Hanson believed in me and our crazy idea to make a rap battle movie set in Detroit. He basically made me into an actor for 8 Mile. I'm lucky I got to know him."

A skilled technician and former magazine journalist who worked with Roger Corman and Sam Fuller early in his career, the versatile Hanson was proficient in a wide array of genres and styles.

He also helmed Losin’ It (1983), the teen comedy starring Tom Cruise; The River Wild (1994), the rafting action adventure starring Meryl Streep; the off-center Wonder Boys (2000), starring Michael Douglas as a Pittsburgh professor struggling to complete his second novel; and the frothy In Her Shoes (2005), a comedy starring Cameron Diaz and Toni Collette as opposite-minded sisters.

Earlier in his career, Hanson directed the Hitchcockian homages The Bedroom Window (1987), which he also scripted, and Bad Influence (1990).

Hanson worked closely with Brian Helgeland over many months to adapt James Ellroy’s complex novel for the screen for their Oscar, and he also received noms for producing and directing L.A. Confidential (1997), considered by many to be the best Hollywood noir-style film since 1974’s Chinatown.

DEADPOOL's Ed Skrein to Play Villainous Cyborg in ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL

Deadpool bad guy Ed Skrein will suit for Alita: Battle Angel, James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez’s ambitious adaptation of the popular manga graphic novels.

Skrein will once again play a heavy, closing a deal to join the cast that already includes Maze Runner actress Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz and Jackie Earl Haley.

Rodriguez is directing while Cameron and his Lightstorm Entertainment partner Jon Landau are producing for Twentieth Century Fox.

Set in the 26th century, Alita tells of a female cyborg (Salazar) that is discovered in a scrapyard by a scientist. With no memory of her previous life except her deadly martial-arts training, the woman becomes a bounty hunter, tracking down criminals.

Skrein will play a character named Zapan, a villainous cyborg who is in possession of a weapon called the Damascus blade.

Skrein starred in 2015’s action movie The Transporter Refueled but became known when he co-starred opposite Ryan Reynolds in Fox’s surprise global hit, Deadpool. He is currently shooting the thriller In Darkness with Natalie Dormer and Emily Ratajkowski.

First Details on THE DARK TOWER Spinoff Series; Will Adapt WIZARD AND GLASS

Today is author Stephen King’s birthday, and Sony Pictures just gave him and his many fans quite the present.

King’s epic, genre-bending fantasy saga, The Dark Tower, is already headed to the big screen in February 2017. Now, there are new details about The Dark Tower’s companion television series.

The Dark Tower television series, which has been in the planning side-by-side with the film, will be a 10-13 episode adaptation of Wizard and Glass, the fourth book in The Dark Tower series. According to Entertainment Weekly, The Dark Tower television series will begin filming in 2017 with plans for a 2018 debut.

According to EW’s sources, the content of The Dark Tower television series will be dark enough to require a cable or streaming distributor. Idris Elba is already on board to reprise his role as Roland in The Dark Tower TV series, and Tom Taylor will play Jake Chambers, a 15-year-old boy in modern day New York with the psychic power called “the shine.”

Elba and Taylor will appear in frame story for The Dark Tower television series. The show will fill in much of The Dark Tower’s backstory, including Roland’s origin story, which takes place years before the events of The Dark Tower movie. A younger actor will play Roland in the The Dark Tower TV series’ core story.

The Dark Tower movie director Nikolaj Arcel and co-writer Anders Thomas Jensen are writing the series’ script, but someone else will be brought in to serve as series showrunner.

Matthew McConaughey may still appear in The Dark Tower TV series but hasn’t signed on just yet. His character, the Man in Black, is a powerful, quasi-immortal wizard who can take different forms and assume different personas, so there would be an easy mechanic available to recast the character for The Dark Tower TV series.

Wizard and Glass the novel that opens up The Dark Tower to its full multiversal potential, even tapping into some of King's previous novels and a version of the land of Oz. This is all to say that The Dark Tower television series has every bit as much potential as The Dark Tower movie.

THE GREAT WALL Actress Jing Tian Joins PACIFIC RIM: MAELSTROM

Chinese actress Jing Tian has joined the cast of Legendary’s Pacific Rim sequel.

The actress, who is making her English-language debut in Legendary’s fantasy The Great Wall opposite Matt Damon, will star in the mechs-versus-monsters tentpole alongside John Boyega, Scott Eastwood and Cailee Spaeny.

The film will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight. No other plot details have been released. Production is set to begin in November in Australia, with shooting also taking place in China.

The Pacific Rim follow-up is set to be released on Feb. 23, 2018, by Universal, which is handling all territories except China. Legendary will distribute in China directly alongside its parent company Wanda.

Jing, who has appeared in Chinese films such as New Police Story with Jackie Chan, also will be seen in Legendary’s Kong: Skull Island.

POWER RANGERS Movie Casts SNL Alum Bill Hader as Alpha 5

Bill Hader is ready to get robotic for the Power Rangers movie. The Saturday Night Live alum will play the role of Alpha 5, the good guy robot who works with the sage-like Zordon and was first introduced on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV show. The official Power Rangers Twitter account announced the news Thursday.

In the original TV show, Alpha 5 had almost a sibling-like relationship with the Rangers and known for shouting, "Aye-yi-yi-yi-yi" — both when the robot is happy or upset.

Hader joins a cast that also includes Elizabeth Banks as the villain Rita Repulsa and Bryan Cranston as playing Zordon. The Rangers are being played by RJ Cyler, Becky G., Ludi Lin, Naomi Scott and Dacre Montgomery. Power Rangers, from director Dean Israelite is set for a March 24, 2017 release.

AFTERMATH Star Levi Meaden Joins the Cast of PACIFIC RIM: MAELSTROM

Aftermath star Levi Meaden has joined the cast of Pacific Rim 2 opposite John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny and Jing Tian, Variety has learned. The sequel is directed by Steven S. DeKnight with Guillermo del Toro producing.

Plot details are vague with Boyega playing the son of the character played by Idris Elba, whose character sacrificed his life in the original film. Meaden is joining the franchise as Ilya, an irreverent and offbeat cadet.

The film begins production this November in Australia and will also film a portion in China. It will be released by Universal on Feb. 23, 2018. Tian joined the cast Wednesday.

Meaden is currently starring in the new Syfy series Aftermath, alongside Anne Heche and James Tupper. The new series, which premieres Sept. 27, follows a family battling for survival when civilization comes to an apocalyptic end.

Meaden previously appeared in the final season of Netflix series The Killing, Syfy’s Olympus, and the CW’s The 100.

JUMANJI Adds Four Young Stars to Cast, Possible New Details Revealed

Sony Pictures‘ Jumanji cast expands today with the addition of four young stars that Dwayne Johnson dubs “Jumanji Juniors” in his social media announcement. Ser’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, Alex Wolff and Morgan Turner are joining a Jumanji cast.

It would appear that the Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart and Jack Black are playing the “avatars” of the kids actually playing the Jumanji game in the film. As such, it may very well be that these four new stars are the alter egos of those four jungle avatars.
