Regarding Ortega and his steroid use in the past

calm down everyones on it, what matters is how you react when you piss hot, and Ortega took it like a world champ of a man

If everyone is on it how do rich fighters like Jones.. Silva and Lesnar fail tests? While others don't?

nothing wrong with taking something to give you an edge over your opponent imo.

war ortega!

Kinda sad that we gotta give a guy props for admitting to be a cheating scum bag

He was fairly young when this happened. I can forgive one time in this case as long as he has been tested thoroughly going forward because of it.
Yeah, that's a pretty fair point imo. He was like 22 or something at the time and fairly early in his career, so I can see why somebody would forgive him compared to 40 year old Anderson.

If PED use is as rampant as people say at least he has the balls to admit using them in the face of overwhelming evidence that he popped. Insert dick pills/tainted supps/kangaroo meat excuse for 90% of the others.

damn... that response erases that stain in his career, imo.

Good thread TS.

so he needed roids for his ufc debut, but is now beating top guys all natural. seems legit.

So, I've seen a couple of threads mentioning the fact that Ortega tested positive for drostanolone back in 2014. My point here is not exactly him popping, but his reaction. I know this can be categorised as "old news", since, well, his reaction was obviously in 2014 as well, but I think some of you might not have seen it and I believe it's important to see the full picture in order to make a fair judgement.

These were T-City's words:

"In preparation for my UFC debut, I used a banned substance called drostanalone. It was an irresponsible decision that I will regret for the rest of my life. I apologize to my family, friends, fans, the UFC and everyone else who was affected by my selfish actions."

"It should be known that my coaches were totally unaware of my decisions, and I am ashamed that I let down the people who believed in me more than I believed in myself."

No kangaroo meat, no skin cream, no Thai viagra, no tainted supplement excuse. Not only that, he took full responsibility and did not blame anyone else for it. In times of "everyone is on steroids" claims, I can honestly respect that.

tl;dr: Yeah, Ortega did test positive, but unlike many others, he took it like a man: admitted, apologised, and said it would not happen again. I can respect that.

I feel ya

100

He apologised then popped again a year ago and nothing has been heard since?

Not trying to be a bitch, im just butthurt cos i love me some big ben
If you love yourself some Big Ben, I'm sure you'll be butthurt.

Jones isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer, and the others just don’t give a fook

What if all the tainted supplement excuses are legit and Ortega is the only scumbag in the UFC?

You're never 100 percent sure if you belong in the UFC or not until your there so there's a lot of nerves and frankly fear. I get it. Props to the guy for admitting his faults and now it looks like he may even be in line for a title shot. Cool story. If he pops again I won't like him though. You make a mistake, it's America you get a break but if you keep doing it I'm not down with that.

Yep.

Ortega owned up, took his punishment like a man, and has kept his nose clean since. Very refreshing.

Anyone with half a brain knows his situation is not even remotely close to repeated offenders and liars like Anderson and Jones.

Damn it! He got caught with his hands dirty and admitted!
Wow. I'm shocked.
Give this man a medal.

You are ridiculous people.
A guy should be admired for NOT using, not patted on the back for admitting after being caught,

what are you stupid, everyone makes mistakes--this topic is about honoring the insane few in mma that have made the ultimate mistake of juicing (which imo really isn't THAT big of a deal but whatever) and instead of dick-pilling his way out of it, owned up to the truth

get out

I hear ya, TS. I'm not sold on him being a future great (and neither was I on JBJ, either, until he beat Shogun) but he seems like a legit standup guy. The way he praised Cub in his interview after the fight made me a new fan. As for his past steroid use, I just hope he learned his lesson and stopped using them, and respect for being a man and owning it.
