Rener Gracie was pleading with Doctor not to stop the fight

he was in that fight until the fourth round.
then he seemd like he couldnt even react

Ortega is a tough MF’er. Too tough for his own good, and Gracie is a fucking idiot.

why does he have a jiu jitsu expert as his head coach? you don't need better jiu jitsu, you need better ways to apply your jiu jitsu.

he should've been working with some wrestler like Askren who has unique takedowns. somebody who will be able to use his creativity to apply it to get the fight to the ground.

Ortega has nearly lost a few fights because of his inability to dictate where the fight goes. he has to rely on either hurting the opponent or the opponent trying to force him to the ground in order to apply his jiu jitsu.

he has the same problem as Luke Rockhold. extremely dangerous ground game, no real reliable way of getting the fight there.

As bad as it sounds I would've liked to see the 5th round, ortega is known for losing fights only to catch a last minute finish out of nowhere, that's just how he fights, wish they let it go on for the last round.

Brian was catching anything in that 5th round except more of a beating..

Your correct, he got a little confident after Frankie...I said it multiple times, his planning should have been all about getting Max down, clinching, in close fighting...You don’t fight Max ( To Quote Rener) “ All The Way Out” Brian should have been ALL THE WAY IN.

He was dead in the fourth round, falling to the floor every new single punch Holloway landed at the end of the round, it was clear it was over long time ago.

He should fire his trainers right away, they were continuously u are doing great, they didnt stop the fight, and they wanted to continue? What a joke of people this persons hire... Total parasites that jump in the winning wagon until the thing breaks.

Why is Rener Gracie even trying to corner a MMA fight anyways when he never had any striking experience?! He was giving Brian Ortega advice on striking in between rounds. SMH.

Can we name some MMA people who are bigger narcissists than Rener? Holy crap does that guy have a hardon for himself. I stopped watching his breakdowns because of that before he even got famous.

yeah, it was very bizarre how he didn't even attempt much of anything when Max kept getting in clinch distance. he just kept trying to strike with Max.

He could not see out of his left eye, it was completely closed.
Doc made the right call.

Coaches have to make that hard decision to pull a fighter. Yes they could come back but at what expense. Max was getting through with every punch in that 4th round and ortega had nothing.

Is ortega on a win bonus contract, might have something to do with renner not having the balls to pull him so he got the doctor over to do it for him.

In Rener's defense. Ortega is known for big comebacks, but danm he was taking a beating

Well, that's the thing. The fact that some fighters are known for big comebacks, doesn't mean you should rely on that to win the fight. A good coach/manager should tell to their fighters that they will have zero problems throwing in the towel if the fighter is not looking good in there. There are situations where fighter is actually implementing the game plan but getting hit a bit more than usual, in that case you should give them the benefit of the doubt. But if someone is getting lit up and risking permanent damage, you need to protect the fighter from himself or herself and let them recover and live to fight another day. That way fighters will know that they have to rely on ability to win, not just the Homer Simpson tactic.

People should be winning fights using their skill and intelligence and by following the game plan and listening to their corner, not just relying on how much beating can they take(this should only be used on super rare occasions where you have to edge it out, but you can't have more than a few such fight in your career). Ortega is still young, no need for him to have wars and shorten his career.

This!

Needs to work really hard on varied takedowns and become super slick and fast at them. The single-leg wasn't working on Max.
So... Yes spend like 6monyhs just killing it with someone like Askren, take your cardio to the next level up as well, and that should be a big help.

He's young he learns fast, he can do it.

Should be ashamed of himself. Ortega had nothing to give Max. These people are insane.
I agree. Prior to the 4th round gracie would have had a point, but ortega took way too much damage and that fight needed to be stopped. Nobody wants their token boy to get taken out, but sometimes it happens. "You live son, you live ........tofightanotherday"

Ortega would have gone Hail Mary mode.

Terrible stoppage.
