So I just saw the attack that Governor Ron DeSantis launched on President Biden and it kind of made me sad and pining for a gentler time in our discourse. It made me realize that the harsh rhetoric coming to and from the Trump White House set a bad precedent and is continuing on and I don't really think it's a good thing. I have my own issues with Biden, but I think public officials like DeSantis should have more respect for the President. For DeSantis to unleash an unwarranted attack on our President because things aren't going too well in his own state right now is just really sad to me.

And I would hope that if a respectful Republican ever gets elected again who doesn't act like Trump, that we would treat him in kind, even if we disagree with his policies and whatnot. But perhaps that ship has sailed, sadly...

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, facing a surge in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, delivered extraordinary and impassioned remarks on the issue Wednesday — attacking President Joe Biden.

He made a litany of accusations against the president, many of them amped up versions of what Biden or his administration has said and done that have an element of truth but DeSantis depicted as ineptitude, incompetence or maliciousness.

The governor concluded his 4 1/2-minute broadside with this message to the president: “So why don’t you do your job? Why don’t you get this border secure, and until you do that, I don’t want to hear a blip about COVID from you. Thank you.”

DeSantis knows, or at least I think he does, that Bob Dole types won’t get elected anymore. AND IF you want to be elected to the highest office as a republican, there has to be a beating of the drums, for the majority of the country is shifting away from staunch republicanism of the past.

People only talk about respecting the president when it’s convenient, too. During the Obama years, well, you guys remember the birtherism, etc. When Trump was president it was ‘not my president’ and ‘trump is gay for Putin’. I would prefer a bit of decorum from Politicians, but understand everyone has to score points. Ron would bow down in all reality, as he has in the past, considering it’s all show, which is why people distrust our representatives.

Those days are gone...and it started long before Trump was in office
It started coming from the right* when Obama was in office, even though Obama conducted himself with decorum. The bullshit like a sitting Congressman (Joe Wilson) shouting "you lie!" at Obama during the State of the Union address. Shouldn't do that on either side. But it really ramped up under Trump because of the way he acted and the response he would get. Just feel like the precedent that was set under him has sent us on a bad path. The President should act a certain way and compose himself and people should have respect for the position not only domestic but internationally.

*There were comedians and other liberals who were disrespectful to W. Bush in the 2000s, but not elected officials at the time. W.'s policies were exceptionally bad and he was kind of embarrassing in the way he carried himself. His father knew how to act.

ok...it's Trump and the rights fault. Got it.

This isn't Trump's fault . . . it's a generational thing IMO. It's only going to get worse due to the various platforms idiots have access to today.

And for the record, there SHOULD be respect for the office of President...but on both sides, they need to fucking earn it and it's apparent they don't give a shit, on either side.

It didn't start with Trump, him and MSM made it worse. It seemed like it started with Bush and the media along with celebrity's attacks. It's once thing to disagree but to be insulting and take it to the next level.

They way people responded to Trump was sickening "not my president" F trump"

I never liked Obama but wasn't too disrespectful about him as a person. If I saw him in person I would be polite and ask for a picture. People make politics way too personal..

I think people should have less respect for politicians in general. It's so sad seeing people waste their lives carrying water for politicians and political parties. Donating money, volunteering on campaigns, ugh.

One good thing about Trump's presidency is he delegitimized the POTUS position forever. He successfully proved that any goof can come off the street and be President. And he actually did the fucking job for 4 years! You can say what you want about him and his policies, but he successfully ran the country for 4 years, and he's a cheesy egomaniac reality show host.

So no, don't respect the President more. It's now being run by a creepy senile old man. People thought George W Bush and Clinton disgraced the presidency... lol! They might as well be George Washington and Abraham Lincoln compared to these two clowns.

well, it's politics. Bidens been slinging shit all over everyone for nearly half a century and his own party was annihilating him with calls of being a racist and a sexist for starters and that was just last year in the primary debates.

Times like this we need our leaders need to toughen up and his constituents should follow suit

There are a couple schools of thought on this for sure. Some say the office should have that respect, others say the fuck that. If the person in the office is a dick, let it be known. I’m with the latter crowd.
