Crime Six Dead and at least Eleven, including a nine-month-old baby, Injured after Mass Stabbing in Sydney Shopping Centre. Suspect shot dead by police.

We all need to agree as a society to start taking a hard line on mental health. Left and right. We're letting the crazies take over. All of us.
Since he had no history of violence ( I haven't see any) ot would not have worked here.

Forced commitment for anyone a danger to society. And no they are ok as long as they take their meds unless they are tracked everyday

I believe we have become too accepting and hospitable to dangerous mental health issues in our current society. All we do is make it more comfortable to be a lunatic. We're not doing anything that solves the problem. We've let it fester to the point it may take drastic action to get it done.
The shooter in Lewiston in Maine for example. This guy couldn't have been screaming more loudly that he was going to do something bad if he took out an ad in the paper. So I guess I'd ask, if the red flags are there, what can we do?
Look at all the homeless, obviously people who are in a dire situation. What do we do for them? Intervene to take them out of their horrible situation? Find a why to make it so they can rejoin society? No. We give them socks and McDonalds and video it for likes on youtube , tiktok and instagram.
We've simply let it go too far, IMO. We don't care about helping them, we care about the appearance that we're helping them.
Would you agree with me that there are a lot of people out there who shouldn't be walking the streets?

Fortunately the sick bastard didn't get his hands on a gun, would've been a lot more casualties there with the way he was running after people, who were obviously confused at what was going on.

If you look at the guy, he doesn't really seem like somebody who's going through it. Just another dude. Nothing that makes you think he's going to stab babies in the next moment.

Even if he'd been under a coercive treatment order, with no criminal history at all in Queensland, slipping interstate and being homeless is a pretty sure way for him to fall through the cracks of the mental health system.
If he'd developed a meth habit (some evidence of use apparently), that'd explain a rapid deterioration.
The interactions with police that had become more frequent were "street checks". Ie speaking to him about his unusual public behaviour.
At this point there's been decades of decentralisation and deinstitutionalisation in psychiatric treatment (which has less of a shoddy history here than in the US or UK, but was still far from great), and there's still significant opposition to any suggestion of setting up more intrusive monitoring.
Even from the police themselves:

Asked whether police should have monitored Cauchi more closely and then let NSW police know about his move to Sydney this year, Lowe indicated he did not appear to be a significant imminent threat to the community.

“We have people in our society who suffer from mental health,” the assistant commissioner said. “They go about their days without trouble, without causing these types of crimes.

“Mental health in our society is not a crime and we do not run an intelligence regime on persons who suffer from mental health."

“There’d have only been an exchange of information if a person were to present such a security risk in society, that we would need to monitor that behaviour.”

Last sentence:
That is very authoritarian and Orwellian. Authoritarian regimes often locked people up with the excuse they were mentally ill and a danger. With a such an outloook it will be certain that society overreacts and many many innocent people are locked up and end up being mentally effed from punishment and treatement forced upon them.

Very funny, you cretin.

Now compare it to mass shooting rampages that happened in Australia and New Zealand.

Not so clever now, are you, ghoul?
I'm sorry I hurt your feelings and you felt the need to lash out. Next time I post I'll be sure to remind myself that there are overly sensitive people who don't have the intestinal fortitude to read karate forum comments without having an emotional melt down.

I don't know about the Australia but mass stabbings happen in China all the time but you guys don't see it in your western news so you think it's safe there

Every time i take my nephew to school i am afraid of a attack, and isnt a common ocurrance in Brazil.
<Huh2>

shit must be the most terrifying thing to happen

Bondi Junction shopping mall is not a "predominantly Jewish area"
"predominantly" maybe not, maybe high concentration. Outside of israel, there's no singular place that's predominantly jewish, not even los angeles.

Cauchi was soliciting sex work on an escort website.

The profile, which has since been removed, describes Cauchi's physical characteristics and the type of escort work he was available for.

'I am an athletic, good looking 39-year-old guy,' the profile reads. 'Let me gently massage all of your body.'

He frequented strip clubs and at least one brothel.

Cauchi was unemployed, had no children and seems to have been lonely. He made a lot of effort to meet people for various social activities, as well as dating and sex work.

[This one does have public responses, although they could have been left after the attack. Still it seems his efforts to strike up relationships were often unsuccessful.]

He studied at the University of Southern Queensland and was a member of many social groups, including the Toowoomba Car Club and Toowoomba Arts Society, and appears to have had an interest in life drawing.

As usual there is some contradiction in details. One article now says that he ate a meal in the Vietnamese restaurant, left without paying, then returned later, had the same meal again and paid for both. Before I read that he entered, could not pay, left without eating, then returned, ate and paid. The newer article also says that in addition to reacting slowly and appearing confused, when he left the restuarant he fell into a shopfront, and a witness thought he was on drugs. He was also apparently seen in the mall 24 hours earlier, appearing agitated. Many articles are also still saying there are only six dead.

He may have been staying in backpackers' hostels as well as a vehicle.

Elaborating on the detail that he had an unhealthy fascination with knifes, he also appears to have had at least three hunting knives, at least some of which he had professionally sharpened.

The dead include:

Right, because it's impossible for a Muslim to wear a rugby top and cricket shorts. Man, shut the hell up.

I should probably point out that most of the islamic terrorists subscribe to a pretty fundamentalist subset of Muslim beliefs, which includes pretty strict dress code.
Shorts above the knees are haram. In addition to it being odd to commit an act of terrorism against a country while wearing their sporting colours.
Be a bit like the 911 hijackers boarding the planes decked out in the stars and stripes.
They aren't really known for their sense of humour.

It's about a 30 minute walk north to places that actually have a substantial Jewish community though, and that would have Jewish attendance on a Saturday afternoon.
It really wouldn't have taken much to realise the social media theories were of course nonsense.

it was a guess based on where the "asians" lived, a deduction that they dont comingle. I hear that bondi is a nice area, shame the randomness of attack, and since we dont hear much about the land down under, chalking it up as an anomaly.

One of the 9/11 hijackers was known to drink and frequent a strip club in San Diego (I have actually been there, but I digress). In Islam there's a concept called "taqiyya" - Muslims can disguise their faith in order to achieve the highest good in the name of Allah.
