His longevity and variety of elite level film making is pretty incredible.
Just picking out a top 5 for me is tough, in no order you got:
- Jurassic Park
- Saving Private Ryan
- ET
- Raiders of the Lost Ark
- Jaws
That stands up against anybody.
I do think Scorcese is right there with him and over the last 20 years has been making better movies and a top 5 from him is elite as well, just in the last 20 years you got:
- Wolf of Wall Street
- Shutter Island
- The Departed
- The Aviator
- Killers of the Flower Moon
I'm not sure I'd put anything of Speilbergs last 20 years in an all time great list and if I'm doing an all time list for Scorcese it's very tough and could slot in WoWS or Departed but I'd go with:
- Taxi Driver
- Goodfellas
- Raging Bull
- Casino
- Gangs of New York
So I'd give it to Speilberg for variety but Scorcese has so many elite level films I'd say I prefer him as a director.
