Would you eliminate world hunger if you could?

Check this out. I've been doing the math.

The average American will spend $700 on holiday gifts and goodies this year, totaling more than $465 billion, the National Retail Federation estimates.
How much money is spent on Christmas in America?

"The UN estimates ending world hunger each year would cost $30 billion.
How much does it cost to feed the world for 1 year?

Based on that alone (465 billion/30 billion), we could feed the world for 15 1/2 years for every year we take off buying Christmas presents... in America alone.

But, it gets better:
Worldwide, the average life expectancy at birth was 71.5 years
What is the worldwide average life expectancy?

So, if we each took 4.6 years off (71.5/15.5) from buying Christmas presents across our lifetimes, we could end world hunger completely.

Amiright?

I'd probably send them the price of a cup of coffee a day instead of having them here.

So don't buy your kids Christmas presents?

Get the fuck out of here socialist trash.

I find it hard to imagine we haven't handled world hunger if those amount is that low. Governments easily could pick up that shortfall.

Yes, we need more dependent people that can't fend for themselves.

Unfortunately, no, that's not how it works at all. Furthermore, your math is terrible because it ignores everything that American gift-buying injects into the global economy already.

Stop feeling guilty for being superior. World hunger is not America's fault.

I really doubt that value of 30 billion is accurate. Maybe they just calculated the price of the food, however, the problem is also transportation, storage and safety. You can't just order some food in south sudan/yemen/CAR/north korea if you have the nominal money to pay for it as nobody is going to send a truck filled with food when it will be hijacked in the way.
I also believe this kind of help is counterproductive in the end. Thanks to foreign help Africa population is booming, creating bigger problems and leading to migration.

If 30 billion was accurate, African countries could pick up the slack easily. Nigeria GDP is half a trillion already. An alliance between Nigeria, Uganda, Angola, South Africa and other moderately successful african countries could easily solve world hunger.

You want to save more people? I thought we were all about climate change and protecting the world? Saving more people will only add to the burden the planet faces.

I'd go with the cure cancer option, though neither option has any effect on the game's story.

If I have the ability to control who goes hungry and who does not, then I will use it against my enemies.

But if you had the ability to make sure no one starved who would you use that against?

How can you have one without the other?

Well okay if offered by a magical wizard, then yes, I will make sure no one starves. But at same time I have to be able to at least control the amount of food each person gets. So I will only give everyone the bare minimum of food, no exceptions.

Thin people are privileged. Fat feminists in Western countries like America, now that's real oppression.

Yes, we need more dependent people that can't fend for themselves.

Most people agree on the idea of a safety net in a society, whether right or left. I think the purpose of the net might sometimes be argued though. Some want it to prevent people from dropping so far that they are permanently impoverished rather than being supported temporarily, regaining ground and being able to contribute to society again. Others may see it as a means to become dependent and stay on the net. The balance is trying to allow for the first thing and discourage the other.

Outside of that, this is more of a foreign aid/international project so it doesn't necessarily have significant economic gains to any country doing it. It's more of a moral calling for prosperous countries that would be voluntary.
