Majorities in many ethnic, identity and racial group in America believe that discrimination exists against their own group, across many areas of people's daily lives, according to a poll from NPR, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

The poll asked a wide range of questions about where Americans experience discrimination — from the workplace to the doctor's office — and people's perception of it. The groups polled include whites, blacks, Latinos, Asian-Americans, Native Americans and LGBTQ adults.

White Americans are among those who feel their group is discriminated against, with 55 percent saying discrimination exists against whites in the U.S. today.

Apparently, in 2017, this is the only thing Americans can agree on. We are all being oppressed.

I'm not oppressed? How can a white male be oppressed in America?
Out of those 55% I would bet a LARGE majority are poor Trump supporters

Amusing. I have other opinions and comments but I'll say them for a few pages in.

Can be true for some groups, but not everyone can be a winner in the oppression Olympics.

Multiracialism/multiculturalism doesn't work.

It's a dystopian concept destined for failure.

Somehow the alternative where people admit they are entitled to privilege seems just as bad if not worse. That would mean people are willing to support the status quo which is awful.

If people think present situation in USA sucks for them they might be willing to change it or at least not resist a positive change as much.

Affirmative action ahoy

This is what happens when you foster a victim culture. Everyone begins to gauge their worth based on how oppressed they are.

What we should build instead, is a society where everyone takes pride in being responsible for their own life.

If you're an American, you're already a top %, when it comes to your "privilege". So there are really not that many excuses that you can use for your failures. The whole idea of "relative privilege" and "relative poverty", without a universal perspective on things, allows even a rich white millionaire to compare himself to a billionaire, and feel oppressed by them.

Seriously though. Are you Arab white or Euro white?

Interesting.

The perceptions of discrimination are not primarily based in actions by institutions, as some might expect. "Most African-Americans believe that discrimination is due to the attitudes of individuals that they interact with," says Robert Blendon, the poll's director and professor of policy and political analysis at the Harvard Chan School. "A smaller share believes it's actually government or institutional policies."
So African-Americans are more reasonable then hyperventilating college kids, surprise, surprise.

Nearly one-third (32 percent) of African-Americans polled said they have personally experienced racial discrimination when going to the doctor or a health clinic
Don't worry, as a white devil, I can tell you everybody feels 'discriminated' when dealing with medical doctors, it's most likely not racial, they're just not very good ( apart from @Dr J of course).

31 percent of poll respondents say fear of discrimination has led them to avoid calling the police when in need
So I guess people who are opposed to privatization should at least find a new argument other than "not everybody would be treated equally".

31% of blacks prefer to not call the police at all rather than dealing with the service they provide.

Our survey found that 64 percent of blacks live in non-majority-black areas. For these people, perceptions of local discrimination, opportunity, police and government and community environment were generally better when compared with majority-black areas, sometimes by wide margins.
Not exactly surprising.

Tell that to the millionaire NFL players who cannot stop whining these days.

Protesting is whining? Interesting

Whining is Trump every single day of his life. MSN makes me so upset I have to tweet about it every single day

How about a rule: those with the most power should whine the least.

Oddly, it seems like the most whining comes from university students attending prestigious schools. I consider them privileged people, regardless of their race or sex.

I have noticed that the biggest whiners about privilege and oppression are spoiled college kids with wealthy parents who feel entitled to speak on behalf of everyone.
