Francis Ngannou: First PFL Opponent to Receive $2 Million Guarantee

Lol that’s why he dishonourably squirmed out of a rematch. I’ll never understand so called mma fans who are satisfied with a one one. Suppose you’re the type who thinks Izzy has bested Alex. Fricken millennials.

Ive literally been on this site 15 years longer than you, but go off, old man. No need for a rematch when the last fight was a one sided beat down where one fighter offered literally nothing.

Common sense. They guaranteed two million dollars to an unnamed opponent...whoever he is, and whenever the hell he fights sometime in 2024, maybe? Yeah, highly unlikely. It's a bait tactic. If they can't find a big name to sign with them for this fight, they're not gonna hand Joe "Big Cat" Mckenzie two million bucks.

happens in boxing quite a bit. And that’s what the PFL model resembles more than UFC.

From what I’ve read it’s just shy of 8 figures per fight

The reports I’ve been seeing have Francis making “high 8 figures per fight” and that his opponent is required to make at least 2 mill minimum. So I figured 8-9 mill for Francis the 2 mill for whoever he fights.
Can you link any of these reports?

Good for Frank and his opponents but good grief the PFL negotiating team basically belong in Guantanamo Bay for this.

No way they even come close to breaking even with all the stuff in this deal. And if Francis were to lose…

"Chase Sherman... You've taken everything I've worked for! Ima fight YOUR fight"

They gave him millions, + leadership position in the company, + he gets a share of profits, + $2,000,000 for his opponents.

If he loses and they still owe him all that, PFL basically goes EliteXC mode instantly.

Seems like there is no way Francis loses anyways to that roster, but I gotta think his opponents are gonna have their job explained…if ya know what I mean.

<{danayeah}>

Lol just because one is born in a barn doesn’t make one a horse. Bravo for one of the most retarded comments ever.

It would have been worth something if he was the UFC HW champion, but now he's just a PFL signee, a promotion most MMA fans outside of the hardcores have never even heard of, let alone boxing fans. Plus they won't even be able to promote him properly since UFC holds the rights to his best highlights.

glad to see PFL has a bankruptcy and liquidation plan

PFL been paying out 1 million dollar purses for a few years now and have not fallen into the Affliction trap. They are a well funded org. Affliction took huge gamble without cash to back it Donn Davis has been doing deals in the millions of dollar range for sometime. Never mind his network an connections within the entertainment and media industries.

After graduating Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1985 and University of Michigan Law School in 1988, Davis went to work for Chicago-based law firm Sidley Austin.[1][2] In 1992, he joined Tribune Media as senior counsel in the law department, handling acquisitions and transactions. At the age of 29, Davis became chief counsel to the Chicago Cubs baseball team, becoming the youngest team attorney in Major League Baseball.[3] In 1995, Davis co-founded and became president of Tribune Media's new investment arm, called Tribune Ventures.[4]

In 1998, Davis joined America Online as senior vice president of corporate development and was subsequently appointed president/COO of the AOL Interactive Properties Group, where he led the internet brands and businesses of AOL.[5][6] In 2005, Davis and AOL co-founder Steve Case launched venture capital firm Revolution LLC, based in Washington, DC, which—as of March 2022—has invested more than $1.5 billion, including notable early investments in Scopely,[7] Zipcar,[8] DraftKings,[9] Sportradar, CLEAR and BigCommerce.[10][11][12]

In 2003, Davis and Case purchased the Miraval Resort and Spa in Tucson, Arizona.[13] In 2004, Davis and Case acquired the majority stake of start-up Exclusive Resorts, and Davis served as CEO of the company from 2005 to 2008.[14] In 2016, Davis, Ted Leonsis and Peter Guber led an investment group that acquired majority ownership of esports team Team Liquid, which has twice won ESPN’s e-sports Team of the Year.[1][2]

In 2017, Davis created and launched a new mixed martial arts company called the Professional Fighters League, which presents MMA in a sports-season format and is broadcast in 160 countries. Davis has since raised $175 million of total capital for the league, including a $65 million financing round in February 2021 with investors Legends Hospitality, Elysian Park Ventures, Knighthead and Ares Management.[15] Davis currently serves as PFL founder and chairman of the board.[16]"

Illiterate apes about to call Ngannou a socialist/commie in 3...2...1

That’s a very smart move. It will ensure that his opponent is a decent name, whcih will increase the likelihood of a successful PPV.
Or, it may make current top ranked UFC signees nearing the end of their contract STRONGLY consider a move to the PFL. This could turn out being costly to the PFL, or actually getting them a few solid signings.

So it's "just shy of 8 figures" and not "high 8 figures"
