How come no one bought Kevin Lee's hype

The Rogan/Schaub/MMA media push (or suggestion) to make stars is a crapshoot. Rarely a fighter gets this type of effort to convince fans that someone's the next superstar, so Lee should be happy, but it doesn't mean fans will see it the same way. It's just a push, a try. Conor didn't need a push, he became huge quickly because he brought in a fan base.

At least this effort shows you can't shove something arbitrary down fans throats. Can't force it, has to happen naturally. I've never seen someone with 10 fights in the UFC with his best win being a non top 5 guy being lauded as the next cash cow.

Conor has charisma and KO's everyone he fights. Kevin does not.

Explain how Lee is copying Conor? Are you a copy of the first person to use that meme? Are you a copy of the first person to post on Sherdog? Or is it possible to do something someone else has done before even if you are not copying them?
Now that you have answered 'no', 'no' and 'yes' in your head go back to jacking off and pretending porn chics are you girlfriend you fucking friendless, socially inept, loser. Just because you found out that you were an unplanned and unwanted child that thy found out about too late to abort doesn't doesn't mean your going to find some give a fuck over here.
On the grounds of never argue with fools this is the last response you get from me because I am far to high on the intellect and social ladder to put too much time and energy in you.
Now start writing you soon to be ignored response.
Read the name bitch I never intended to be nice.

Fans respect results, not hype. Kevin earned more respect with his performance against Tony than he lost with any failed attempts at self promotion.

1. He lost. Conor on the other hand beat Mendes for the interim and then beat the FW GOAT in seconds.

2. The PPV itself was nothing compared to Conor/ Mendes. UFC 189 had Lawler/ Rory 2 for Christ's sake, while UFC 216 had Lewis pulling out and WMMA no names fighting on the main card.

The UFC tried hyping up Kevin lee (who seemed to think copying Conor was going to make him a draw). We saw him driving a 2010 C Class around in the countdown. He and the UFC had high hopes for 216's ppv buys but it completely flopped 120k buys.

Why doesn't anyone care about Kevin?
Cuz UFC has been marketing them selfs out of the afro american market for years using «face the pain» as intro music.

Because it's pretty clear that his is acting (badly) and that he is not confident at all.

Kevin needs to be marketed more. He is a top prospect he needs to get some ring time in find his composure and cool. Do see him as a top 3 guy down the line.

For the same reason not all songs are hit songs. You have it or you dont.

He doesn't have a whole country supporting him. There are a ton of American fighters already.

He is a little cringe at times, but he seems like a great guy with a lot of heart. If he would have won he could be big. Beating mcgregor with a wrestling based strategy by domination would have been huge for him

You’re an angry, insignificant, judgemental dork. Must really suck to live life as you.

I figure it would be just as good if not better if they would teach fighters to talk shit, professionally.

They need to study prowrestling promos back in the 80s-90s.

As for the original topic, it looks like all the good points were already mentioned.

When you do the trash talk game like he was approaching it you better be knocking heads off in the cage other wise the talk wears off real quick with fans.

Conor not only trash talked but back it up and was very funny while doing it.

The UFC were clearly hoping to build him into a star. He wasn't going to be moving numbers for this PPV. The entire MMA media were kinda saying he had the IT factor which I did find strange. He is terrible at talking, doesn't have any notable wins really and doesn't have a super entertaining fight style. It honestly seemed like the entire reason we were being fed the whole future superstar thing was because he was a young black guy.

He's a solid fighter but this was definitely a case of them trying to artificially create a star.

Because he didn't beat anyone good yet

Yes.
I honestly could only name 1 fight in his winning streak. If that fight wasn't a main event and had the "early stoppage" controversy I'd probably name 0.

I wouldn't say I never "fell for the hype." I still thank Kevin is a legit talent and has a bright future. I just knew he wasn't going to beat Ferg.
