Official Women's MMA Discussion Thread #13

Since we're still posting in this thread i might as well add my two cents.

I want to see Zingano fight McMann, both are high quality wrestlers and stumbled against Rousey. I think Cat is one of the few who can match up with Sara's grappling skills too.

I've been saying for awhile that people are underestimating Miesha even though she's one of my least favorite fighters. Her wrestling is high level, her striking is good and she has solid gameplans. People just get blinded by how amazing Ronda is and overlook Tate.

@Sherdoggy (with the payouts for 184) - Good to see Cat made some real money there. That should take away some of the sting.

I think all of you guys overrate Tate. I think she just "hangs in there" in fights due to her toughness (she can take a lot of damage - one of the most resilient fighters at BW) and just being well-rounded. She is like a jack-of-all-trades, master of none (similar to Davis...but less BJJ, and more resilience). She has no glaring holes in her game. She hangs in there and wins a lot of decisions. Hey, it`s a formula that works for her, so I can`t knock it.

What a difference a month makes: if you had mentioned a possible Zingano-McMann fight in January, it would have seemed like worlds about to collide. Now, I`d be more inclined to pick Cat by way of beat down. And if Sara was Cat`s next opponent, I think Cat would unleash hell on McMann`s face.

Jarl

P.S. Completely agree with MuffinGod below. It`s also red meat for those people on Sherdog who really seem to want to beat women.

She wins those decisions by being the second best overall grappler at BW I think, which isn't just being tough and well rounded.

One of these days Jarl will give in and give Tate a bit more credit. I must be here when that day comes!

I am not exactly a fan of hers, well, I like parts of her, but there is no denying her fortitude nor her ability to scramble for position.

Unfortunately, these do not overcome bad cornering, bad planning/fight IQ and mediocre striking.

Well, it has overcome them 3 times in a row lol. And I think she gets too much flak for her fight IQ in one fight against Ronda.

I`ve already said she`s probably the #4 or #5 BW - and that was quite a concession! :icon_lol:

You guys aren`t getting any more out of me until she beats Kaufman, Zingano, Rousey, Eye or (maybe) Davis.

Jarl

Could at least acknowledge she wins fights with grappling and not 'toughness' since if toughness was all she had, she'd just be a walking punching bag that lost all those decisions and got cut from the UFC lol.

Could you (Jarl, my favorite person on Sherdog) at least acknowledge she wins fights with grappling and not 'toughness' since if toughness was all she had, she'd just be a walking punching bag that lost all those decisions and got cut from the UFC lol.

Nope. I will not concede that. :icon_chee And, I`m not sure lack of grappling means you will lose all of your decisions and/or get cut from the UFC. Toughness can take you very far in the UFC; look at Chris Leben`s career.

And, fuck it! Let`s make this thread 200 pages! Come on everyone, we can do it! :icon_lol:

Jarl

P.S. (below) She does look a bit intimidating in that photo

A woman who spit on police officers has officially been charged.

Jozette Cotton will face two counts of assault on a police officer with bodily fluids along with disorderly conduct and failure to leave charges.

According to a police report obtained by WOWT 6 News, Jozette Cotton is alleged to have shown up for work drunk, then became combative. Police say she spit on multiple officers while being escorted off the property.

Cotton will be back in court on March 11 to be arraigned on these new charges.

Here's a post she made on her facebook page a few months ago.

YALL whooped me in hand cuffs, FUCK THE POLICE in my Lil boosie voice!!!!
I thought she got into scuffle with cops moonlighting as nightclub security. Wow showing up to work drunk, and spitting on cops who are escorting off the premises.

I think she knows she'll be doing a few months in the county because she's been living it up.

She started training with Houston Alexander before her last fight in January but she looks bigger than ever.

^ well, I guess WMMA is slowly catching up to MMMA in all aspects

Well, she doesn't have great striking so if she also lacked grappling... :icon_neut

The more people get away from the "men vs women" thing and start seeing it like people see a LW vs a HW or whatever, the better.

Where the "men vs. women" thing pays off for Rousey is with her action-hero film career. I expect she will mostly be beating up men in films (as has Gina Carano), and this talk feeds the credibility of that.

I wholeheartedly agree with Jarl here. Tate is one of the most mediocre fighters I've ever seen who somehow manages to keep winning fights. Okay, maybe her wrestling is above average. Someone of her skill level never should have been able to beat Marloes Coenen. Marloes probably gassed because the cut to 135 was too taxing.

Fights I'd like to see made:

Cat Zingano vs. Kaufman/Davis winner, or vs. Tate II
Marion Reneau vs. Jessica Eye or Bethe Correria
Holly Holm vs. Jessica Andrade, Jessica Eye or Bethe Corrieia

The latest UFC rankings are weird. Marion Reneau is ranked below Jessica Andrade again. WTF?

Finally, an ally! If you ever find yourself in southern Honshu, Japan - let me know, I`ll buy you a beer. But be warned, Mizkreant, Tate has a lot of fans on this thread. As you can see, they keep twisting my arm to get me to say she`s great...but much like she did in the first Rousey fight, I`m blocking out the pain and not tapping. You bring up a good point: If Tate hadn`t beaten Coenen, then her best win is...McMann?

I like your match-ups. Zingano vs. Kaufman could be a lot of fun.

Jessica Andrade is just hanging out on the fringe of the Top 10. She beats anyone not in the Top 10, but loses when she moves up in competition. Must be frustrating for her.
