mma is also a sportI've never seen Wing Chun applied in MMA and if I were to guess, I would doubt it would be applicable. I think if applied correctly, it could be effective in a street fight.

flailing punches, chin straight in the air
damn WC guy was a badass here
mma is also a sport
Why you gotta go there bro...
Wing Chun has its merits but it is an "Accessory" art in my opinion. Those chain punches aren't that bad per say, but they are not sufficient.
Muay Thai is a foundational art, Wing Chun needs an adequate delivery system to reap its full benefits. Muay Thai is a platform, it will develop your overall base ability to fight, Wing Chun would be used in addition as an accessory to mod your Muay Thai catered to your liking.
Study Muay Thai first, maybe if you have time add a little Wing Chun if you must.
The fact that this subject is still debated baffles me. I've studied and practiced both arts extensively. They both have merit when someone understands and can apply the overall strengths while avoiding the inherent weaknesses of the stylistic constructs.
I used to know a guy who competed in thailand in the 90s who studied wing chun aswell. The fact that this subject is still debated baffles me. I've studied and practiced both arts extensively. For the situation when someone sneaks up on you in the bathroom and grabs you, Wing Chun would probably be more effective.
This is the ONLY video you need for self defense
Muay Thai is a dueling martial art, and Wing Chun is not. There are so many scenarios that can happen on the street, that nobody can say for sure which martial art works better. For the situation when someone sneaks up on you in the bathroom and grabs you, Wing Chun would probably be more effective. But if you’re actually going to face off with someone in a back alley, Muay Thai would obviously be more effective.
