Jon Jones is proof that Calfs absolutely don't matter. I'm Proud to be part of No Calf Master Race!

Quick analysis of Jones body for shertards:

Not know for a random goof but weak calfs = weak punch. That's why Jones will never be a KO artist with his punches.

On the other hand Jones got ridiculous upper body core strength and solid thighs. That's why he is able to be so creative with his kicks and standup overall and that's why he is often referred as more powerful than expected by his opponents.

Look at MVP's calves and he KOs people.

Look at Benson's calves and he can't punch his way out of a wet paper bag.

This is why Im attacking the people who say big calfs = stronger.

Fair play, I see that.

I just did some basic research to see what the forums on weightlifting thought.

This one post made me think "this guy has a good point" - I don't think they are essentially, but I do think they help.

Train your calves hard using the standing calf machine and doing sets of 6-8 reps and watch how easy the setup is when squating. Think about it, the first part of a squat is backing up (using calves)... strong calves make the walk out easier and makes for a better set up... a better setup can mean a better squat attempt.

He does have a point.
George Leeman the guy in the picture I posted says the samething..might be the same guy who posted that lol.

He says calfs help you balance in the deadlift so train them to make them stronger....but again thats strength.

Sure if you train to make u calfs stronger, they might get slightly bigger...but the don't recommend doing a shitload of reps to activate hyperthrophy on calfs(and its hard to make them grow, its 80% genetic)...because bigger calfs doesn't mean better deadlifts/squats.

Actually power comes from your quads and hips. It also comes from technique. There is a reason why as a runner your left arm moves in unison with your right leg (and vice versa), and in boxing you keep your power divided between the two sides of your body (left leg into left hand, right leg into right hand) if that makes sense. Basically in punching. the power travels through your body from leg to hand, with the power generated mostly in your quads, to hips, through triceps and into the fist. At least that's how my coach taught me.

Fair play, interesting topic all the same!

Tired of these, dont skip leg day kids...Probably never lifted or just started and just discovered that fitness meme.

Anyways they always attack Jon Jones calfs....trying to imply he is weak because of it.

If anything, Jon Jones living proof that Calfs are the most pointless muscle known to man.

Absolutely irrelevant in the purest sport ever...MMA/Fighting...It simply has no purpose.

Anybody who is a real lifter, or knows about athletics, knows its pointless and its 80% genetic depended.....Sadly sherdog kids who just started lifting have no idea.

You kids sound pathetic typing "Don't skip Leg day"...Literally the worst Fitness meme out there...not to mention, these days, I see less people doing bench press than squats.

Video of the baddest man on the planet having to deal with this calf nonsense.

All No Calf people know that feel.

I use to be ridiculed about having no calfs and use to be self conscious...but after seeing Jones destroy you normal calf people..I know for a fact that they are pointless.

Anyways as part of No Calf Master Race like Mr.Jones...I feel proud of Jones success, and hope he keeps on being the GOAT, proving that us no calf people will easily destroy you cankle people.

It's all about quick twitch muscles

From my completely layman perspective, stretching and loosing your calf muscles mainly results in feet movement.

So I guess big, powerful calves technically mean ability to plant, lock, turn your feet easily, under great stress.

Similar to how forearm muscles mainly move the fingers.

Agree, disagree?

There's a reason he is 6'4 and can't dunk. No calves.

But you wonder why he can't dunk...
its a combo of coordination and fast twitch muscle

the lack of fast twitch muscle is the reason he can half ass a camp and go to war for 5 rounds vs gus. meanwhile theres not a single training regimen rumble, woodley, etc could do that will allow them to go to war for 5 rounds

mma is more of a cardio game

this is why we dont see "washed up" 27 year old football players dominating. they got 1.5 minutes of cardio and theyre limited to about 2 rounds of it. hard to beat legit contenders with a 2 round gas tank

Exactly.... any decent porn aficionado knows this already.

Thiago Alves has calves of peace but will only ever be a Welterweight gatekeeper.
