oh, man that's cold.

I always think the line "Ice to see you" is from Batman and Robin. Meanwhile it's actually from one of the Simpsons episodes that had a scene from a McBain movie. The hilarious thing is that deliberately hammy as fuck spoof line in the Simpsons is probably better than most of Ahnolds one liners in that movie.

I remember him stupidly saying "Cool pahrty"

Good news for Bryan Cranston fans: Breaking Bad’s finale may be the last we see of Walter White, but Cranston already has his next role lined up. He’s set to star in Trumbo, the biopic of blacklisted and jailed Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo. Directed by Jay Roach (Meet the Parents), Trumbo was adapted from the Bruce Cook biography by screenwriter John McNamara. This will be the Cranston’s next major role after the AMC series comes to an end.

dalton-trumboAs Deadline reports, Cranston is set to star as Dalton Trumbo in the biopic, Trumbo. The highest paid screenwriter of his time, he was sent to prison in 1950 for refusing to answer to Congress’ infamous House UnAmerican Activities Committee. Upon his release, Trumbo became the most prolific blacklisted writer in cinema, using a pseudonym for his screenplays and winning Academy Awards for The Brave One and Roman Holiday.

Kelsey Grammer Replaces Nicolas Cage in THE EXPENDABLES 3

Kelsey-Grammer-Joins-Expendables-3-Dragonlord.jpg

Remember when Nicolas Cage was supposed to join the ensemble of action stars of Millennium Films’ The Expendables 3? Well, guess what, that role is going to Kelsey Grammer. Grammer is near a deal to play the role of Bonaparte, an ex-mercenary who helps the Expendables in their mission. While Grammer was long identified for playing the mild-mannered shrink-turned radio host Dr. Frasier Crane, he has transformed into a Hollywood tough guy. Most of that came from him playing the ferocious powerbroker in the series Boss. Michael Bay was a fan of that show, which led to Grammer being cast as the villain in Transformers: Age Of Extinction.

Grammer joins a cast that includes Sly Stallone, Jason Statham, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Terry Crews, Antonio Banderas, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren and Wesley Snipes. Grammer also worked recently with Stallone in the John Herzfeld-directed Reach Me, so he certainly was on Stallone’s radar and Sly is the catalyst for all that happens with this action film franchise. Grammer also has a new series in the works with Martin Lawrence for Lionsgate, which releases the Expendables films.

Y: THE LAST MAN Scribes to Pen TOM CLANCY’S GHOST RECON

20t1313.jpg

As if Grand Theft Auto V’s $800 million debut didn’t illustrate the point sufficiently, video games are a huge market that have yet to adequately adapted into the cinematic world. One such project that hopes to change that perception is Michael Bay’s production of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon. While we still don’t know whether Bay will direct the film set up at Warner Bros., screenwriters Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia have been tapped to pen the Ubisoft adaptation. Federman and Scaia previously made headlines when they were tasked with scripting the feature treatment for Brian K. Vaughan’s graphic novel, Y: The Last Man and turned in an early draft for the Zorro reboot. The pair has worked predominantly in television on such series as Jericho, Warehouse 13 and Human Target.

The popular video games series revolves around “a fictional unit of the U.S. Army Special Forces that essentially operates as the President’s private army, using the latest technology to infiltrate and take down threats around the world without leaving any traces behind that they exist.” 2012 saw the release of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, as well as Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online. The feature film adaptation is just one of quite a few anticipated adaptations, most of which are from frontrunner Ubisoft, including the upcoming Assassin’s Creed, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell and plans for Watch Dogs, Far Cry and Rabbids. With Need for Speed and Warcraft projects also on the way, we might be entering the Golden Age for video game movie adaptations.

Garrett Hedlund Joins Angelina Jolie's WWII Drama UNBROKEN

Garrett-Hedlund-Image-600x200-Dragonlord.jpg

Angelina Jolie’s next directorial effort continues to fill out its cast, and Tron: Legacy actor Garrett Hedlund is the latest to sign on. Based on the non-fiction book by Lauren Hillenbrand, Unbroken tells the incredible true story of Louis Zamperini, a former Olympian and WWII bombardier whose plane crashed at sea in 1943. Zamperini and two crewmates floated adrift for 47 days and 2000 miles, eventually finding themselves caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a POW camp where Zamperini was targeted by a sadistic overseer.

Jack O’Connell (300: Rise of an Empire) landed the lead role of Zamperini, and now Variety reports that Hedlund—who has long been interested in the true story—has signed on to play fellow POW, Commander John Fitzgerald. Joel and Ethan Coen wrote the most recent draft of the Unbroken screenplay, and Jolie has nabbed genius cinematographer Roger Deakins (Skyfall, No Country for Old Men) to act as the film’s director of photography, so things are off to a great start. Filming begins next month in anticipation of a December 25, 2014 release.

Disney to Combat ESCAPE FROM TOMORROW with Indifference

fay5br.jpg

At Sundance this year, Randy Moore‘s Escape from Tomorrow gathered some buzz, not because of the quality of the picture, but because of how brazenly it provoked a fight with a major studio. The plot involves a father who slowly starts losing his mind as he’s dragged through the nightmarish hellscape of the famous amusement parks. The film was largely shot at Disney World and Epcot, and the filming was unauthorized (also, Disney probably would prefer if their theme parks aren’t depicted as nightmarish hellscapes). Once Escape from Tomorrow played at Sundance, there was speculation that the movie could be banned and buried by Disney’s lawyers, so scarcity made it an appealing ticket. However, it was eventually picked up for distribution, and will be released on October 11th.

According to THR, Disney is doing the smart thing, and ignoring Escape from Tomorrow. The marketing is designed sell the movie on controversy, and Disney isn’t taking the bait. The studio and the filmmakers could have a legitimate court battle revolving around Fair Use and trespassing, but Disney is wisely keeping the lawyers on a leash to avoid drawing more attention to Moore’s picture. This means that Escape from Tomorrow will likely remain at best a curiosity among cinephiles rather than something that garners the attention of the mainstream.

New Trailer for Pixar’s TV Special TOY STORY OF TERROR!

10ym4qa.jpg

A new trailer has surfaced for Pixar’s very first TV special Toy Story of Terror!. The half-hour short film finds the Toy Story gang staying in a motel after Bonnie takes them on a road trip only to have the car break down along the way. Once inside the spooky motel, one of the toys goes missing, and the rest of the group is suddenly caught up in “a mysterious sequence of events that must be solved before they all suffer the same fate.” Toy Story of Terror! will premiere on ABC October 16th.

With both The Good Dinosaur and Finding Dory being delayed earlier today, 2014 will be the first year in nearly a decade when no new Pixar film came out. That, coupled with the relatively disappointing performance of Brave, probably puts some pressure on established hits like the Toy Story, Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo brands to generate some buzz and, potentially, merchandise to carry the Pixar division through 2014.

Rumor: Saoirse Ronan Reportedly Up for Lead in EPISODE VII

Saoirse-Ronan-Star-Wars-Rumor-Dragonlord.jpg

According to Latino Review and independently supported by Bleeding Cool, Ronan has reportedly gone in to read for a lead role in Star Wars: Episode VII, and possibly “the lead role” in the upcoming sequel. Bleeding Cool notes that this isn’t a done deal, and there are other actresses with recognizable names who could get the part instead. At one time, Ronan was rumored to be the leading candidate to play the Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, but she reportedly passed on the role. If the Star Wars rumors are true, then it might explain why she would pass on a key role in the Avengers juggernaut.

A few weeks ago, it was reported that Benedict Cumberbatch was pretty much a lock for Star Wars: Episode VII, and an official announcement was imminent. It’s been seventeen days since that report, and we’re still waiting. Latino Review is holding fast to their story, and that denials out of Cumberbatch’s camp are lies. Filthy, filthy lies. Furthermore, LR is saying that his part in Episode VII is small, but it will be much larger in Star Wars: Episode VIII and Star Wars: Episode IX.

Latino Review is also reporting that while 90% of the movie will be shot in London, there will be a little filming in Las Cruces, New Mexico. If that’s true, then let the speculation begin about returning to Tatooine.

s2d10y.jpg

After 20 years of great performances in front of the camera, Cate Blanchett is set to make her feature directorial debut on an adaptation of the Herman Koch novel The Dinner. The Messenger scribe Oren Moverman is adapting the psychological thriller which explores just how far some parents might go to protect their children. Cotty Chubb is producing through his ChubbCo banner. The film will be exec produced by Eva Maria Daniels and Olga Segura. It is unclear at the moment if Blanchett will star in the film.

First published in Amsterdam in 2009, The Dinner reached the New York Times Bestseller list and has been translated into a dozen languages. Blanchett, who once again is in the thick of the upcoming Oscar race for her performance in the Woody Allen-directed Blue Jasmine, has been honing her directing chops on the stage. She spent the last five years as co-artistic director of the Sydney Theatre Company alongside her husband, playwright Andrew Upton. She directed playwright David Harrower

Michael Fassbender to Star in Western Film, SLOW WEST

Michael-Fassbender-Macbeth-Dragonlord.jpg

While Michael Fassbender's plan to make a western earlier this year with Lynne Ramsay was cancelled when that project hit a few rocky patches, leading to the exit of both the director and actor, it looks like the X-Men: First Class actor has gotten back on the horse. He's got another gunslinging flick on way, with some interesting folks helping out.

You might not remember, but back in 2011, Fassbender revealed he was developing a movie with ex-Beta Band member turned filmmaker, John Maclean. They had previously collaborated on two shorts
