What kind of home will $500,000 buy you in your area?

I’m not even sure you could get a condo in vancouver for 500k.

I wanted to see what kind of house half a million dollars will buy in the area where you live? I'm curious to see if you think that price will buy you a modest middle class home or something much bigger.

No need to list the exact town but a general area would suffice. I'll start by posting a few homes in my town which is a suburb roughly 30 miles west of Chicago. It doesn't have to be exact but around 500K will do.

So if you can, post a photo and the listing price. You can get it off of redfin or any other real estate site.
Plus I just like looking at real estate

Something like this, 3-4k sq ft, nice lot. St Charles/St Peters MO, short commute from STL.

500K American?

If so, then you could get a pretty nice place where I live. Definitely upper middle if not higher.

In orange county CA you may get a 2 bedroom 1.5 bath Condo that is less than 1100 square feet. It may or may not have a garage and likely has a 200 dollar or so HOA fee.

You cannot get a house for that.
maybe in the ghetto parts of Orange county the barrios and the Vietnamese gang area of West Minster and places like that you can get a 3 or 4 bedroom for 450-550k, shit is still expensive lol in the poor side of OC.

Man Vancouver is beautiful, but that was 7 years ago not sure if its the same is it still nice?

I remember a lot of Chinese and Filipinos were going there and some white angry guy saying go back to China to the Asians who are doing some type of big Asian day event when I was there. It kinda shocked me cause I thought the Canadians were not racist at all this was like 2010 or 2009.

Maybe one or two bedroom condo.

Lol you'll get maybe a cupboard in London if you're lucky. You'll have 2-3 bedroom flats going for over 100 million in more affluent areas of London, its outrageous.

A 2,000sqft shack.

Blame China for sending its citizens in droves to swoop up American homes with cash above asking prices. And thank the US gov't for allowing it to take place unabated.

I have long been ranting to people that we need to craft laws around real estate to require citizenship - or something. Exclusion isnt the point, but driving out families because of speculation is just an awful practice.

Looks like most are between 2,500-4,500 sq ft depending on the location. The prices fluctuate a lot depending where you are in Raleigh. You can be 10 miles outside of downtown and get a mansion with acreage or they have newly constructed condos in the center of downtown that are going for $500,000 and if you're "Inside the beltline" you will pay probably 50-60% more for your house than if you lived a mile or two away.

as far as housing -- this is the cheapest i could find for the purpose of this thread on the market

Wow you can get those big ass homes for under 500k and near lake superior why so cheap?

Those homes look like they should cost at least a million or more especially with the land.

Either a 1 bedroom apt in a high rise (live 45 mins from Sydney) or nothing. Average around here is 580-650 for old shitters. Personally had to move to another state to buy and bought a house worth 1 million in Sydney for half the price.

So all you guys living in markets where a mil will get you a shack...how do working class people survive? Do they pay mechanics, machine operators, etc like $100/hr?
