Smartphone Handgun in Production, Shipping to Dealers

So stupid, smh.

But, disguising firearms as something else is nothing new.

They could put an a Apple logo on it and they would have idiots camping outside the store to buy one

I agree with the "a kid is going to blow his head off" they should make a gun out of a book, no kid will ever die.

There was a pager gun years ago, used to see warnings about them at the airport security offices and police stations. Along with the pen guns, the cigarette pack guns and a bunch of other shit. They will be nothing but a gimmick that vast majority of us will never see.

Terrible idea. Rude people will go around in public using these things without silencing them.

Someone sets it to vibrate, shoves it in their pocket and shoots themselves in the balls when someone calls them.

Im a hardcore supporter of the 2nd ammendment. And even I think this is stupid.

It's a gimmick gun and nothing really much more in my opinion. No one with any real sense would rely on this as a self-defense application.
It only shoots 3 less rounds than a small revolver. Same caliber, too.

Definitely not a gimmick gun.

Lol, this is going to be the Curve all over again. It’ll generate buzz because it’s gimmicky, but isn’t going to put a dent in the Shields and G43s.

My wife has a curve . . . not bad for a small purse gun.

Hell just got a bit colder...I agree with you Zebby23. <Eek2.0>

Oh geez, I may need to rethink my position.

I kid... I'm sure there is more common ground between many of us here who disagree than we would like to admit

Inventor Wins Free Speech Battle with DOJ to Distribute 3D-Printed Gun Designs

Cody Wilson’s Defense Distributed and Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) reached a settlement with the Department of Justice allowing unfettered publication of 3D gun files and other information in a case centered on free speech.
Breitbart News reported that SAF filed a suit on behalf of Defense Distributed on May 6, 2015, seeking to free Wilson from a federal mandate that he not post blueprints for The Liberator pistol online.

Over three years later, the announcement comes that Wilson and SAF won.

SAF sent a press release to Breitbart News, explaining details of settlement, saying, “The government has agreed to waive its prior restraint against the plaintiffs, allowing them to freely publish the 3-D files and other information at issue. The government has also agreed to pay a significant portion of the plaintiffs’ attorney’s fees, and to return $10,000 in State Department registration dues paid by Defense Distributed as a result of the prior restraint.”

SAF founder and executive vice president Alan Gottlieb said, “Not only is this a First Amendment victory for free speech, it also is a devastating blow to the gun prohibition lobby. For years, anti-gunners have contended that modern semi-automatic sport-utility rifles are so-called ‘weapons of war,’ and with this settlement, the government has acknowledged they are nothing of the sort.”

Gottlieb added, “Under this settlement, the government will draft and pursue regulatory amendments that eliminate ITAR control over the technical information at the center of this case. They will transfer export jurisdiction to the Commerce Department, which does not impose prior restraint on public speech. That will allow Defense Distributed and SAF to publish information about 3-D technology.”

Breitbart News spoke with Cody Wilson after the settlement was reached. He said, “Our culture will not just be preserved, but will have a new life in the Internet. The age of the downloadable gun has formally begun.”
The implications for this are interesting. Disarming has just become a little bit harder.

The source may be an issue like it always is but the information is interesting regardless of the source and in keeping with the firearm related theme of the OT.

Might be a "cool" collector's piece, but that's about it . . . I'll stick with my MP Shield.

Don't really see much wrong with this . . . anyone can already buy an 80% receiver and finish it out. Might as well be able to print your own parts.

This doesn't alleviate anyone from not being arrested if they're a felon and are caught with these items though.

I'm sure there is Zebby23. It's the nature of the beast here though that makes it so much easier to simply sling poo. ;) Hell. I'd likely buy you a beer. Course you'd have to take off the black mask first but you'd still get the beer. :)

No, but does make it a tad more difficult to keep firearms out of the hands of lunatics. Don't get me wrong, I'm not on the firearm ban-wagon. Just realize there are implications to the ruling that aren't necessarily in anyones interest.

I think the anti-gun crowd isn't going to be pleased and I wonder how quickly someone will shoot themselves in the head answering their phone?

https://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2018/07/10/smartphone-handgun-production-shipping-dealers/
This idea is a disaster intended to give police an additional cover excuse for shooting citizens holding nothing but a cellphone in dark alleys.

I've never been one to show sympathy for suspicious behavior like that, always favoring police security, but this is absurd. This is a political nightmare with no tangible improvement to self-defense.

This is a no.

JFC, "it looked like his phone was a gun in his hand" is already etched on the headstone of about twenty brothers a year. After this, it's going to be open season and not an indictment in sight.

@Cubo de Sangre this would be pretty useless is self-defense, right? Hard to imagine it being any more lethal than an airsoft rifle.

As others have said, this is not a serious option for self-defense. Extremely limited capacity coupled with slow deployment make for little chance of success. At best maybe it could be useful for a woman in a domestic violence situation.

I actually thought were already out and considered buying one just for the fuck of it. But it just seems too worthless for the enticement of novelty to overcome.

Gun grabbers will overlook this being a win for the First Amendment. But it is.

It's almost like a parody. Like, they didn't see any of the downstream implications here?

The market always corrects itself. No regulations or oversight are ever needed, all they do is get in the way of companies trying to put food on the table. If you call this company and tell them the downstream implications they will end production willingly.
