Been waiting for this for a while....and it's worth it. The first 4 videos in part one makes it worth the purchase IMO. Seeing two styles compared side by side is very interesting.
Not very highly....has been called out numerous times. Even been called out by people outside the catch world.
I think he learned some fundamentals of hooks but didn't train long enough to fully grasp them.
I think that's how most people are. I've only competed 4 times and the first 2 times were terrible. I played it too safe and didn't apply submission like I should....I was more or less rolling like I do in training. Third one I was going against black belts at a US trials even so i knew i was...
I get it a lot....from top and bottom. Still prefer the Double Wristlock to the top....but I'll take what i can get.
Grabbing the hand and turning it was a big deal for me. Even if i cant finish it i can control them. Normally go to the single hand control and neck crank if that doesn't work
I'll be completely honest....i don't follow gi...couldn't tell you what gi is for which art. So i don't really understand what you are saying. The times I've have been up there training he has worn the Kurta.
The origin of the US Combat Wrestling Team was they had the trials event there. There...
TK Martial arts and Inferno are both good schools depending on what you are looking for. TK will teach you more wrestling/sambo based...so lots of good leg locks. They have brought Sambo Steve down twice for seminars and Vlad down once.
I've heard great things about Inferno but haven't trained...
I would only do a stand up if they had a ball and chain ride. The knee slide would open up more options if they don't have the ball and chain IMO.
I think it would be really hard to take the back and control it with hooks....would be easier off a leg ride.
That being said you should check out...
I wear them whenever i can. Yes they have more grip on leg locks. If anything you will learn to avoid them or learn to properly escape them. They shouldn't be pulling hard on a heel hook anyway. Anytime i don't wear them I seem to injure a toe or get some nasty mat burn.
If he is that low....knee slide. From there you have options to get back to standing or at least facing him. If you are wanting to get back to guard tripod up and create the angle so you can granby roll to guard. Or go the option that is posted about....learn to roll them and get to the top...
So what do you generally do while in their guard? I try to make the carry my weight. I tripod and use a forearm in the throat (deep so they cant get an arm triangle from it) or put pressure on their diaphragm. I don't want them to feel comfortable. I normally read people and see how they react...
Glad you guys are talking about grips. The mentioned twisting ankle lock is legit. Got to compete against Roli three weeks ago.....my ankle popped 3 times before i could tap and it's still sore ha ha.
